DAY ONE: Favorite Kris Furillo scene
So I have to go now. Really. But here's part 2. Just for you KrisFurillos.
She looked at his pained face and watched as the tears streamed down his face. As soon as her delicate hands caressed the sides of his face, whimpers of apologizes and declarations of love left his quivering lips.
Kris, knowing what she was about to do, cradled his head to her chest and gently kissed his head. Her own tears started to fall, but the tears that once threatened to fall out of anger and spite for Junior Davis now fell in pity and love for Junior Davis.
"Kris, p-please believe me." She tried to softly hush him as they sank to the floor. "I'm not r-ready to be a dad. I'm so scared. I-I just don't want to lose you...I don't want you to l-leave me." He heaved.
She shut her eyes tightly. Those words twisting and pulling her heart into so many painful directions. He betrayed her, he betrayed them. And as much as she was hurt and could feel her chest collapsing under the pain of his earlier admission, she had to be a big girl.
"Junior..."
A ragged gasp left her mouth as she realized what she was really about to say.
"I-I have to go."
And this did not mean walk out of the door of the Davis Mansion and go to bed in her trailer at Raintree. This did not mean avoiding Junior for a few days or weeks. This was goodbye and it was not supposed to be this way, but it had to be.
Pressing her lips to his head, Junior felt what was coming. He wrapped his strong arms around her torso. A tight grip Kris wasn't sure he could loosen.
With three more tears leaving her eyes, Kris placed her forehead to Junior's. He looked at her, eyes red and puffy beyond belief.
"Kris....don't do this."
She sighed.
"I love you so much Junior Davis." His throat choked up at the sound of those words. "I love you more than I have loved anyone in my life."
"Then stay with me." His right hand moved to her tear stained cheek. She shook her head softly.
"It's time for me to grow up, Junior. It's time for me to be a big girl. And it's time for you to be a big boy....it's time for you to be a f-father." Kris choked out the last word.
Her knees bent so as to stand up, but Junior kept his arm around her....keeping what hadn't left yet to him as selfishly as possible.
Junior broke down one more time, but Kris had to leave. Not just because her plane would be leaving in 2 hours, but because if she didn't leave now, she'd stay on this marble floor with Junior for eternity, and it scared her how much she preferred the latter.
Before she knew it, Kris was standing up, Junior following her. She looked upon his face, her thumbs gently massaging the puffiness under his cheeks and wiping excess tears. He resisted looking at her. Her fingers played with his hairline and she smiled at the boy who had her laughing from day one.
"You know I'm always going to love you, Junior Davis. I'll never stop loving your smile or your wit or your eyes. I'll never stop loving you because I don't know how to stop....but I have to learn how to live without you....at least for a while. Okay?"
Junior didn't say anything. He looked down and tried not to shed one more tear. Kris took this opportunity to lean forward and kiss his forehead one last time, but Junior looked up and captured her lips.
No ferocity, no begging, no desperation.
This was his goodbye.
And so Kris, not saying a word, gently broke the kiss and ran through the back door, leaving Junior alone in the foyer of Davis Mansion.
Before she even grasped what had happened she was standing in the middle of the box-filled living room of her living room in Oklahoma. The only word that escaped her lips was.
"Junior."
Hey Carley. I hope you were having a nice day.
Kris wrapped her arms tightly around her shaking frame. She tried to control the heaving sobs that were threatening to wrack her entire body. And with every blink she attempted to hold back the tears that were gently escaping her eyes.
one more step, the doors right there.
Those were the only coherent thoughts that could keep her legs moving across the marble floor. She wanted to block out the fast moving and heavy steps coming down the large staircase.
"Kris...Kris come back!" His voice called. It bounced off the walls and surrounded her.
Not wanting to face him, Kris picked up her speed and ran towards the door. She wanted to yell back and tell him to stop, to leave her alone, but all that came out was a wretched sob.
"Junior...just stop!" Her writhing hands grabbed the brass door handle and she tried to pull as hard and fast as she could, knowing he was right behind her.
"Kris," though his hand felt warm on her shoulder, she shivered under his touch. "I just want you to know I'm so sorry, I didn't want this...not this way....not with....her"
She did not bother to look back at him. He'd said enough upstairs.
"Junior, I don't want to hear it." Her voice was shaky but stern. She glanced down sideways, so as to look at his falling hand while it traced her arm. Her breathing tried to settle, but just radiating heat of his touch on her bare skin sent Kris's thoughts to warm afternoons in the grass and late nights in the Porsche.
Her eyes fluttered open remembering she was not in the soft grass of the valley nor was she gently sitting in Junior's lap in the car under a starry night.
Kris's arm shook off the familiar touch she will always long for...the touch that ruins her in all the right ways.
"I...I have to go." Kris nearly whispered, stalling to open the door. Knowing that once it was open she'd have to leave and never so much as turn back.
"D-don't..." Junior's voice cracked as he choked up. "Please....don't leave me like this....just....don't leave me." Tears rolling down his face.
Kris knew she could not say a word and just walk out that door right now. She could walk down the road and to her trailer at Raintree where her bags were packed. She could have Matt take her to the airport where her plane to Kentucky would lead her to the life every jockey dreams of.
She could do that.
"Kris, I love you."
But she didn't.
