Posting more about Deltarune because I think Flowery's character is extremely interesting as it relates to Kris. That is, Kris obviously made the flower king dark fountain, and it's been well established that the worldview of a fountain's creator affects its dark world. And while one part of that dark world can of course represent multiple things, I think Flowery is best understood as Kris's view of Asriel.

The connection between them is pretty clear, as Flowery is the Deltarune "version" of Flowey (both being golden flowers who manipulate the rules of the game they're in), who was Asriel. Flowery's seeming perfection is also easily comparable to how everyone in Hometown speaks of Asriel as a kind of golden boy. The fact that he's Asgore's old friend from college is probably a combination of how Asriel is away at college during the game and how Kris knows that Asgore sees his son as a part of his idealized past (shown in his constant reminiscing and wanting to fix everything when Asriel gets back). Also, this might be a bit of a stretch, but the fact that Flowery gets two Floradinns who like him to kiss each other reminds me of how Catty and Bratty both had situationships with Asriel and are now basically set up as a future couple by the narrative (at least in some routes).

The relationship between Flowery and Asgore shows a lot of longing for attention and affection, which would make sense if Asgore fell into his obsessions instead of trying to fix things with his family, as is implied. They also do stereotypical father-son things (like fishing). The slight romantic subtext in Flowery's relationship with Asgore could be an amalgamation unrelated to Asriel, since Kris probably didn't do well after the divorce seeing Carol and Rudy doing weird, vaguely flirty shit with their dad. Or it could be related to emotional incest, since Deltarune is heavily focused on complex and unhealthy families.

Anyway, all of that to say that if this is true it would provide a lot of insight into how Kris sees Asriel. A kind, flirtatious, ultra-powerful, universally beloved character who walks all over them, has a bad familial relationship, and is ultimately revealed to be kind of pathetic.

(And this isn't even mentioning the fact that Orange is the only Flower stated to be related to Flowery (as his younger sister) and Orange is a character who's desperate to be seen as more mature and capable, which parallels how Kris has been raised in their brother's shadow. And bravery and kindess are the only two soul traits available in the "gift" part of the game's intro, with Green being a character who can't talk, very similarly to Kris. Is this a real connection or bullshit? I don't know.)

Some may say the trope is basic but I am obsessed with Asriel secretly being awful. Feeling guilt about it constantly and endlessly praying in the church to beg for forgiveness for the way his thoughts wander not to his classmates, but Kris.

Loving the way they're so tiny compared to him, how he can easily pick them up and could so easily manhandle them if he pleased. Not that he'd need to. Kris trusts him. The worst part of it is knowing he could get away with it.
