Name: Croctopus
Debut: Donkey Kong Country
Hmm... I thought I would be getting something far uglier with a name like Croctopus, to be honest. This here is just a pleasant blue-ringed octopus. I hate to say it, but I'm disappointed this octopus is conventionally attractive. We're done here, Croctopus. You may go, have a somewhat average time finding a mate. Good By!

Oh! It sounds like the phone's ringing! And not just any telephone- it's the homophone! Who could it be?
"It's me! Kroctopus! With a K!"
Name: Kroctopus (with a K)
Debut: Donkey Kong Country 3 (GBA)
Wow! What a Thing you are, Kroctopus! This is what I'm talking about! I'm not sure what I'm looking at here. Are those eyestalks, and the top half of a styracosaurus-like head frill? Or just some kind of personified booger? Based on the name, might I assume an octopus with crocodile skin?
"I don't know what I am either! I'm just hanging out. But I do think I am an octopus. I don't think I have any bones, but it has been a while since I've checked. You never know when some new ones may have shown up. You know?"
No, I don't know. What a whimsical life you live, Kroctopus! So, Kroctopus is only in the GBA version of DKC3, because they added a new world. but instead of putting Kroctopus in the new world, they had it replace Barbos the visceral urchin as the boss of an earlier one! They made Kroctopus, and people needed to see it sooner rather than later. They should have gone all the way! Imagine an epic opening cutscene featuring Kroctopus being set up as the main villain. So cool. It would still just be the sixth boss.
Kroctopus's wacky nodules are actually tentaclaws, and get a load of this. They're made of spheres! I love when two-dimensional spheres are in games! You never see two-dimensional spheres in real life. Apparently having access to actual spheres makes those "redundant". Pah!
Kroctopus has a weakness. Some people have a weakness for chocolate. They know they shouldn't, but it's just so yummy... Kroctopus loves ugly purple bombs. It acts like it's not trying to prioritize them, but it's quite easy to get it to grab them. Of course, this spells the end for dear Kroctopus...
There's a lesson to be found here: don't give into temptation, or you'll die. There is no nuance.
