“Doing what we know! (mis)representation and working while Native”
Build your knowledge about how to screen, prepare and facilitate requests for representation at events, workshops, panel discussions and more.
Lots of community and non-native organizations ask us for one-off moments of 'representation' of 'marginalized' identities and sometimes we just need to get paid. So how can we manage these requests while staying true to our whole selves? This workshop is for 2spirit and Native community members who want to learn or share skills about what its like working within non-profits, social services, and arts organizations to create a network of support that will continue beyond this workshop.
This workshop will be facilitated by Tities Wîcinímintôwak collective
member, Krysta Williams.
Lunch provided by Nish Dish Marketeria and Catering and followed by:
“Building Your Writing Practice”
This workshop will provide basic tools and methods to support the
development of your individual writing practice. Learn strategies for
building positive habits and patterns to allow you to improve your writing
skills, expand your literary portfolio, and enhance your daily reading to
gain the skills to improve as a writer. To get the most out of this
workshop, please bring a short sample (under 400 words) of your writing with you, don't worry you don't have to share with others if you don't want to! We will also have available some writing samples for you to chose from.
This workshop will be facilitated by Giles Benaway, who recently published a collection of poetry “Ceremonies for the dead”. You can reach more of Giles’ writing here:

--->> More information about the 2Spirit Skillshare --->>
This workshop is open to all 2Spirit and LGBTQ people who are Native to Turtle Island, as well as our Native friends and families. We are finding ways for settler allies to be involved in many other important and
inclusive ways.
The 2Spirit Skillshare is a project of Tities Wîcinímintôwak // Bluejays
Dancing Together Arts Collective. It is an art workshop series for Two-Spirit people and their communities in Toronto. These information and skills-sharing workshops are intended to strengthen and build relationships in our communities by sharing space, food and diverse creative processes.
Through art workshops our Indigenous gender and sexuality complex communities come together, actively challenging colonial gender and sexuality binaries, and encouraging each other to grow into our whole selves.
