US intelligence officials on Friday discounted the possibility of foreign countries mass producing fake ballots to interfere in the November elections, contradicting President Donald Trump's continued insistence that mail-in voting poses a significant threat to election security.
Donald Trump is practicing being a sore loser by starting early to blame mail-in ballots for his defeat. As is typical of Trump he is offering no evidence to back up his claim -- just as he was unable to support his assertion that drinking bleach and sticking ultraviolet lights up your ass will cure COVID-19.
One problem for Trump is that intelligence officials in his administration have been contradicting him on mail-in ballots in sworn testimony on Capitol Hill.
Mail-in ballots are paper ballots. It is impossible for Putin’s hackers at their trolls’ nest in St. Petersburg to change them. That may be one reason why Trump doesn’t like them.
Trump is probably also hoping that his tantrums over absentee voting will depress voter turnout by making people think their votes won’t count. Of course that could backfire if that keeps older Republicans worried about COVID-19 from voting at all.
Trump’s claims about fraud are typically hypocritical. The two most high profile cases of election fraud during the Trump administration have both involved Republicans -- including a GOP member of the US House. 😆
