Kid dragged his feet, but Shinichi would have none of it. “I’m more important to you than a gem?” He looped his arms around his neck. “Prove it,” he murmured into his ear, cheeky.

“Detective—” Kid said, flailing, seemingly unsure of where to put his hands.

“What’s the matter, Kid. Never danced before?” Shinichi said. Something bubbled deep in his stomach, anxiety or excitement, Shinichi wasn’t sure. Either way, it made him bold, and he reached out and grabbed his hand, placing it on his hip, linking the fingers of their other hand together. Kid tried to tug his hands away, but Shinichi’s hands held them firmly, right as the quartet changed songs into a rousing waltz.

“Of course I have, it’s just that—” Kid protested.

“Just what? Afraid I’m a better dancer than you?” Shinichi asked.

“I’m not exactly dressed for it!”

“So?” Shinichi said, tilting his head, gripping Kid’s fingers more tightly. He couldn’t believe he was touching Kid’s bare hand, without the glove. The rough pads of his hand sent shivers down Shinichi’s spine.

“I’ve never done ballroom before!” Kid hissed.

“You’re kidding,” Shinichi said. Kid’s grumpy look was adorable! “It’s easy. Follow my lead.”
