Rough doodles of Vi
For Secret Santa in my classroom this year, I was lucky enough to receive the honor of making my teacher's gift~ She wanted an illustration of her character, Thomas, on the right, but I decided to add his friend, Betty, in there, too! I didn't want him to be alone in the celebration, after all~ Seeing as it's Christmas, this appears to be the best time to post this image, so others can see it too uwu I hope everyone if having a very Merry Christmas and that everyone has a Happy New Year! (By the way, my teacher is super awesome and talented, so go check out her art blog if you haven't already: @kstearb )
A million years ago I saw that you replied to someone about how you got your job, saying that you had just made a giant list of studios and applied to all of them, is there anyway you could share that list (if you haven't already)??
Honestly, I just went on gamedevmap and/or gamejobhunter and chose the cities or areas I was willing to relocate to and went through each website checking 1) if they created stuff within my wheelhouse, and 2) if so, if they were hiring or were open to receiving unsolicited portfolios w/out openings. I had a bookmark folder of companies that fit these two bills and I went through those links and typed up cover letters and sent stuff off one by one. I don’t think there’s quite a tool as those aforementioned two for animation studios, but you end up doing a lot of research that way. I don’t have anything like an actual list of studios, but it probably would do you some good to do the search yourself anyway. You’ll be more aware of what you’re looking for and what you’re doing. Just remember that the big studios aren’t the only ones out there and dig around smaller ones too.
Is sleep paralysis being unable to react or is it a combination of 'seeing' things while in between sleeping and being awake? I've had a lot of experiences of waking up and seeing hundreds of spiders falling on me or like the ceiling is crushing me, sometimes I fall out of bed and run to the other side of the room and sometimes I just lay there freaking out and unable to disconnect from that experience. Whenever I've talked about it people say shit like, "doh ho just drink tea before bed"
Sleep paralysis is being kind of stuck in a state between being asleep and awake, where you’re aware of your surroundings but your body has already paralyzed you so breathing is hard and you can’t move or speak. And I guess your brain starts dreaming even while you’re awake, so you end up having hallucinations that oftentimes mix with your surroundings (visual, auditory--in my experiences, I also always feel what’s happening around me too, like if I hallucinated someone touching me, I would feel their hands), and I don’t know if anyone has every had a *positive* episode but all of mine were almost always nightmares. So it’s like lying there experiencing a nightmare while you feel awake that looks like it’s taking place in the actual physical room where you are.
It sounds like you’ve got that experience or some form of night terror :S I’m sorry you have to go through that, it’s a really shitty stressful situation. And people who are dismissive of it either haven’t experienced it very often if at all, and they don’t understand how genuinely horrifying it can feel. Because in that moment it’s fucking real.
Heyyyyy!
Send me a ”hey” and I’ll do this:
1. First impression: I think I first met you as Becca’s roommate, and she said you were great. I was inclined to believe her, though I seem to remember that you didn’t talk that much haha.
2. Truth is: You have the cutest character designs and I can’t wait to see where your skills take you. I’m glad we’re friends :D
3. How old do you look: This is the weirdest question because I literally assume everyone is my age until they tell me otherwise hahaha. So like, 22?
4. Have you ever made me laugh: Of course! We have had many a laugh together. I’m pretty sure you made me laugh just today! Although it was a nervous laugh because I never know how to react when people compliment my art hahaha.
5. Have you ever made me mad: Nope! I don’t really get mad at people as a general rule, especially not people as sweet as you! :D
6. Best feature: I think your lips are super pretty! And I like that little smirky way you smile. It’s cute!
7. Have I ever had a crush on you: I have not haha. Is it just me, or is this a weird question?
8. You’re my: Frieeeeend! :D I hope we still keep in touch after graduation, at least over Facebook or something.
9. Should you post this too? If you would like to! :D
kstearb replied to your post “i wish i had more confidence in myself and in my art but it seems like...”
That feeling doesn't really ever go away, just realize every drawing you see as a failure is a step to getting to that piece you like I only like one thing I've ever drawn and it's of Wonder Woman as a log
yeah i know i used to be like YEAH MY DRAWINGS ARE AWESOME and like draw all the time but im just like wow im actually really terrible and i cant really bring myself to draw these days which sucks and no it doesnt make you sound like an asshole haha because its true
I know this might be a weird question, but do you have a list of all the studios you sent your resume/portfolio to?
Not a weird question!
Actually, I guess it goes to show at least a little bit of the work I put into it.
I actually found lists of all the video game companies in the los angeles, san francisco, seattle, dallas, and austin areas (since those were areas i was willing to move to) and I visited every single studio website on that list to see if they were hiring for artists positions or if they would accept portfolios even without positions posted.
I actively sought this shit out.
There are also sites like Gamasutra that have actual game job boards that you can look into, and other job posting sites. I just...wanted to be as thorough as I could be.
