Picking at the plate of ddeokbokki in front of her, Kisum heaved a quiet sigh to fill her ears with noise since it was silent between her and the male sitting across from her. “Yah. Why aren’t you talking?” the female’s eyebrows knitted together, forming a slight crease between them. The male continued to be unresponsive with his arms crossed over his chest.
Kisum rolled the toothpick between her fingers, letting the uncomfortable silence linger. “Hey, what do clouds wear under their shorts?” The male finally spoke, causing her to jerk back in surprise. “He finally speaks!” she rejoiced as she claps her hands together, but proceeds to follow up with his joke. “What? What do they wear?” Her friend leaned forward, a cheeky smile playing on his lips, “Thunderpants.” Kisum tried to resist the urge to smile, but failed when she laughed for a few seconds. “That’s cute,” she nodded her head. “What other jokes do you have? I can’t stand the silence, just tell as many jokes as you can.”
Why aren’t you talking?
Hyungwon offers a dismissive shrug, toothpick hanging limply at the corner of his mouth. He thinks for a moment that the answer was already clear--he wasn’t a man of too many words, perhaps close to none at all. But he shoves that thought aside, inclining his head and pulling himself from taking another bite. Realizing it was probably not the response Kisum had expected, he straightens himself and shifts his gaze to focus on her, lips parting to speak. It was clear they were different when she asked him to say more. He was more inclined to enjoy the silence, whilst she felt it awkward. It wasn’t too much of a task for him to do however. After all, he’d listened to many other jokes from people in the past. It was the advantage of listening, he gets to pick up a lot. Hyungwon stares at his plate for a moment, trying to recall a punchline. “Hm, well...why is Peter Pan always flying?”
