Apodyopis - The act of mentally undressing someone.

   “Go go go, Tooru~!” Kotori cheered from the sidelines. She leaned against the railing, smiling each time her boyfriend was able to spare a quick glance in her direction. He was working so hard, trying to maintain focus to make another killer serve. All that energy had to go somewhere, and part of it came off as heat. From where she was the gymnasium itself felt freezing, but it was clear from where she stood that the rivaling teams were drenched in sweat. 

   For a moment Kotori worried that Tooru would worsen the condition of his knee with a harsh jump serve. Those concerns were put to rest when he tried something else, and soon her attention was more on him when he used his jersey to wipe away the sweat from his forehead. She wasn’t sure what she had been expecting from him--this wasn’t some casual sport where you could take off your shirt when it got too hot. And yet...it was something Kotori really wanted to see.

   The sounds of her cheers died down, far too preoccupied with her fantasies. Each time her eyes spotted a lift, a hint of skin from whenever he moved quickly, her imagination would provide a more vivid alternative ending. Kotori considered the type of build hidden beneath the airy fabric, a “forbidden” sight only her eyes were allowed to see. Just a little higher...

"Kotori-chan!" Tooru coos, a sweet smile on his face and tone cutesy as he draws in close, successfully luring her into his trap of faux-innocence before using his ultimate move--kabedon. He leans in closer to her, lips not to far away from hers, a smug smirk on his lips. "As long as I have a face, you'll have a place to sit."

Cue the burst of redness to Kotori’s entire face, beyond flustered by everything he had just done. “That’s so dirty, senpai! Keep it clean, keep it clean!” she whines, cupping her hands to hide the lower half of her face--and hopefully her hued cheeks. Her head pressed back as far into the wall as possible, averting her gaze.

   When her brother had left that staggering last phone call, Kotori was more than beside herself with grief. It was ruled as a homicide, but to no avail was there information on who did it or what the situation was. The police called it a gang-related crime, and that made her seethe with rage. She trusted that her brother had stopped fighting, but had someone come out for revenge? Who would do such a thing?

   This prompted the abandoned sister to do her own research,  investigating the area where Yuu had been found. Naturally, a certain someone refused to let her do it alone. It’s dangerous, he claimed, You’ll get hurt! Kotori didn’t care much for what happened her--she only wanted the truth. And maybe a side of vengeance, but she wasn’t picky. Slipping away from the senpai, Kotori at the very least got to see a replay of what her brother may have witnessed.

   So this was how it was going to end, huh? Yuu was going to be livid with his sister knowing that she wound up in a similar situation. Kotori barely found enough energy to move a muscle, devoting what she could to looking up at Suga when he spotted her. “C-can you please call an ambulance? I t-think I’m dying…” she whispered, trying not to add more stress. Tears slid down her cheeks as she sat propped up against the brick wall of a building. “I’m sorry I messed up, Kou-kun. I even troubled you until the very end,” Kotori managed to mumble, the tiniest and weakest of smiles forming on her lips.

   The damage was worth a rough hundreds of thousands of yen, pocket change to some, but a huge hit to a school that was barely escaping closure. Kotori and Maki sifted through the club room, which had been drenched when the emergency sprinklers tried to put out a fire from a home economics disaster.

   Inside the room Maki had left pages and pages of her new compositions, and Kotori left her sketchbook out while sewing several of her designs in her makeshift studio corner. All ruined. Going into the room was discouraging, as it felt like all the hard work everyone had been putting into the group was all for naught. A total waste. The two were the first to enter the room–and were believed to be the two who would also take the damage the hardest. 

   Kotori inhaled deeply, refusing to let go of that breath as she stepped through the doorway. It was as bad as she had expected. And yet, somehow, it didn’t break her spirits. She exhaled, inviting her junior to follow closely behind. “This kind of thing…can’t be helped, right? Maybe it’s a sign for us to start anew–even fresher than before!” Kotori mused. A light laugh escaped her lips, her mouth only able to form a smile as she wrung water out of strips of cloth. 

   Maki tried to follow her senior’s example, but found it less bearable considering how hard she’d worked on her compositions. It was both surprising and somewhat irritating to see the other laugh at a time like this. “…What’s so funny?” she chided, not wanting to be rude but still wanting an answer. Compared to Kotori’s clothing, the ink was smeared all over the waterlogged papers. 

   “Because if I don’t laugh, I’ll cry!” Kotori responded in a cheerful tone. Both were experiencing pain, but they also needed to realize that they couldn’t change what had happened. They felt the need to be strong, to hold their chins up high. The others in the group worried for them, but they wanted to be the example and show everyone, if we can make it through this, you guys can, too! 

   “Let’s do our best from now on.”

Headcanon Meme

The chances of seeing Kotori angry is about as likely as winning the lottery--a virtually impossible shot except for maybe one in this case, unfortunate person who’s contributed bits and pieces to her agitation. She becomes very snippy and crude, and her typical valued characteristic of keeping other’s feelings in mind is temporarily gone. In short, don’t make her an angry birb.

✄ : pet peeve headcanon

As patient as she may be, what internally irks Kotori are people who constantly complain about issues that could’ve easily been resolved with a little communication, or better action on their part. It irritates her when people talk down on someone they don’t know, bully others, or anything that upsets her belief in equality.

For the first birthday she celebrated without her father, Kotori hid away somewhere in the house because she held so much guilt within herself. She blamed herself for the entire thing, and figured her mother hated her anyway since she spent the whole day working instead. No one noticed she was gone after all, because before dinner time she had already come out of hiding to get a snack.

Each year after that, even Kotori forgets her own birthday because she doesn’t think it’s important at all. She simply goes through the motions with friends when they bring it up.

Kotori shrieked, water displacing from the tub as she tried hiding her fin beneath the surface. “YOU’RE NOT. LOOKING AT. ANYTHING. THIS IS--IT’S JUST....a mere flesh wound?” How else was she meant to word all of this?
