We want to give not just some love, but respect to our local artists who have not just embraced the uphill battle in the states, but also welcomed kpop and hiphop artists into their studios and music venues. Koreatown mural reignites debate over sunburst pattern!

K-town's mural depicting the face of Ava Gardner, who once frequented the Cocoanut Grove nightclub that once stood on Wilshire Blvd, with the orange-red and blue rays bursting out around her face is still sparking a debate among residents. Many Koreans and Korean-Americans who live in K-town are offended by the mural. They exclaim that the rays radiating from Gardner's face are similar to those on the rising sun of the imperial Japanese battle flag used during WWII. Critics feel it is offensive to have the mural there when it evokes many emotions and atrocious memories of Korea's annexation.
