Teotihuacan at #KublaCon. Play #4 or 5 on this for me. We used the full random setup and had a bit of an unbalanced configuration, where the tech track and temple rewards were heavily favoring building the pyramid and worshipping the blue god. So I felt like while I played a tactically much better game than I had in the past, and felt like I was finally figuring out how to get stuff done efficiently, I just got clobbered because I hadn’t really hammered on those two things which were obviously the way to go. The Game Crafter is proud to support KublaCon Protospiel each year. The 2023 event starts tomorrow, May 26th, and ends on May 29th. We donated a variety of blank prototyping components, assorted game pieces, TGC promo cards, and Fail Faster Playtesting Journals (on behalf of Jay Cormier). We love to support indie game designers and design events like Protospiel.

This is one of the many game design events we sponsor each year and this is just one way we give back to the game design community for supporting us.

New Frontiers at #KublaCon. My Uplift-heavy tableau would lose out to a mining tableau after I had hard time finding the rhythm of the game and was off-cycle with nothing to do too often. We played with 3, which was good, but I do prefer almost all the Race for the Galaxy games with more players (although I wouldn’t go as high as 6 with the original). Fun to play again, but once again I was teaching newbies. I’ve played this 7 times, but with 14 different people; I don’t know if I’ve ever played it anyone who has played more than twice. The Boldest at #KublaCon. This is a game that doesn’t have a *huge* “wow” factor but is really solid and workmanlike (in the best sense of the word) and appeals to a pretty good variety of gamers. It’s been a solid addition to the collection. Playing Sol by light from the skylights at #KublaCon. Interesting but really not my kind of game - abstract with a nonsensical theme. This would have appealed to me more if it had ditched the sun-going-supernova narrative that made absolutely no sense and done something like the GIPF games with textures and colors and abstract pieces. The game has kind of an interesting shared-infrastructure coopitive thing going on, but it’s just too long for me and lacks any narrative tension or direction.
