Otep - Be Brave
OTEP LYRIC PROMPTS
From the album “Kult 45”
“This is no longer a spectator sport.”
“Why don’t you go find a bunker?”
“Follow. Your fucking. Leader!”
“Let me kiss it, I can fix it.”
“I was raised in poverty. No safe space. Inside the house or on the street.”
“Bitch, you get what you deserve!”
“Look what we’re facing!”
“They keep you terrified so you obey.”
“Tell me something I don’t know.”
“I told everyone, but they wouldn’t listen!”
“It’s okay to greave, to cry. It’s as natural as laughter.”
“I got something to say. Fuck. YOU!”
“Though we stand alone, our hands are high.”
“What you reap is what you sow.”
“It’s dangerous to fall for a thing like me.”
“I was afraid to stand up.”

Otep are a group from Los Angeles who have been kicking around since the year 2000. They don’t really fit under one particular label when it comes to their style, they can be really heavy, plenty rap in there, softer music, heavy beats, it's a range of everything. This is their 8th full length release and they’re showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
The first track after the intro “Halt Right” is an evil fucking song I’ll tell you that straight off, those growls are not human in nature at all, plus I love anything that completely tears Donald Trump to pieces. At times I get the feeling of In This Moment like “Said The Snake” and “Trigger Warning” but the same virtue and values as Stray From The Path with some similar funky beats and riffs, the later part of the album gives off that early Limp Bizkit vibe with tracks like “Boss”. Their message is very obvious throughout, it's all about taking control of their country and the like trying to spark a fire under like minded individuals, I can truly get on board with that.
For me this may be their best album yet, believe me when I tell you that I will be listening to some of these tracks again and again. The fact that they don’t fit into a standard genre and fluctuate leads to them creating some fantastic and unique different styles and sounds throughout. One for the future this one!
