The hot spring around which this spa was built was discovered in the Middle Ages, probably during mining work. It is now the oldest and warmest thermal spring in the area and is still used for balneological purposes.
This building, the so-called “Kulturhaus”, was part of a larger entity. In this part of the spa houses one could find, among other things, a large event hall, a winter garden and more than 100 guest rooms. Construction work for this particular building started in 1951 and was not fully completed until 1954. However, the building was officially opened in 1953.
The building vacated shortly after the turn of the century. The more than 15 years of vacancy have not been kind to this beautiful Kulturhaus. Renovation is urgently required to protect the now classified building from further deterioration. The only potential buyer so far, an investor, dropped out. He wanted to turn the building into a rehabilitation center for sports medicine, but could not find sufficient funding for his project. The building is for sale for € 680,000. However, the city imposes strict standards with the intention of largely preserving the building structure and interior. This obviously deters potential investors.
