Construction of covers for Baskerville for Brummies: cutting spines for the book and promotional cards; hand cutting B symbol from Birmingham flag in Hahnemuhle Bugra wraps; dulling copper inserts with steel wool; the cover amidst the work area; a finished cover.
48 pages, 6.7 x 5.1 x 1 cm; 8, 10 and 30 pt Baskerville Roman and Italic, letterpress printed with the Vandercook in gold, black and red ink

Pleased with how well the 30 pt uppercase Baskerville (red) fit between the previously printed lowercase (black). This page in the forthcoming Baskerville for Brummies came very late in the creative process (during production), mostly to fill a void in the space available.

Strategizing how to organize all recently purchased Baskerville to simultaneously “prove before laying” and incorporate into Baskerville for Brummies, an abecedarium for Birmingham as they commemorate the life of John Baskerville on the 250th year since his death in 1775. To be completed in a few weeks to take to Leeds for the PAGES Artists’ Books Fair 21-22 March 2025.
