It was sooo amazing to see Little Dragon playing in Japan the other weekend at Summer Sonic Tokyo!

We've been friends for quite a few years now since we met in London. I remember the 1st time I heard from Yukimi and visited Little Dragon's website. As soon as I listened to the song "Feather" with the Hideyuki Katsumata's Machine Dreams artwork on the top page, I fell in love with their music. Yukimi and the guys have worn many clothes from my collections since then, but this is the first time I designed the one-off dress especially made for her! We were talking about this for some time, but it happened so quickly!

I designed the palm tree motif patchwork dress using the fabrics from my SS14 "Deep in the Jungle" collection.

I spoke to Yukimi when I was in New York in June and she said she wanted a hat for hot Japanese summer. Luckily, my best mate Ji works for a hat company in NY, Eugenia Kim and I asked her about the hat. We found a big straw hat with rainbow trim in their office. I thought it's perfect for Yukimi's style.

Ji also made beautiful hair pieces for the 2nd stage, Midnight Sonic. The colour inspirations for the hair pieces are from the recent film "The Grand Budapest Hotel" and Yukimi's purple wall. Those hair pieces are like art pieces!

The palm tree silk dress looked perfect in the early evening's soft breeze from the Pacific Ocean and the rainbow hat looked so dreamy.

Their performance was fantastic and special! It was great to see the whole audience dancing and looked so happy to see Little Dragon in Japan. Such an inspiring band :)

I hope they will come back to Japan again soon!

先日サマーソニック東京で来日したスウェーデンのバンドLittle Dragonの衣装を作りました！彼らのライブを見るのはなんと今回で８回目！でも日本で見るのは初めてで、とっても楽しみにしていました。

彼らとの出会いは約４年前、ロンドンにいた頃に、ボーカルのYukimiからGorillazのツアーに参加するからそのための衣装をさがしている、と連絡をもらったのがはじまりです。あとで聞けば当時migh-Tの洋服を置いていたロンドンのお店で偶然見かけたらしい。メールにリンクされていた当時のウェブサイトにはHideyuki KatsumataさんのMachine Dreamsのジャケットのイラストがアニメになっていて、Featherという曲が流れていました。それまでLittle Dragonのことは知らなかったのですが、この１曲を聞いたとたんほんとにワクワクしたのを覚えています。

それから彼らはよくmigh-Tのコレクションからの洋服を着てライブやプレスに出ていましたが、今回は初めてコレクションからではなくて、Yukimi のためだけに一点もののドレスを作りました。

６月にNYのライブでYukimiに会ってデザインを決めました。SS14"Deep in the Jungle"コレクションのテキスタイルを使ってヤシの木モチーフにパッチワーク、エアメイルカラーのトリムをした世界に一つだけのドレスです。

そしてYukimiが「日本は暑いから帽子があったらいいな〜！」と言うので、そのときラッキーにもステイさせてもらっていた親友が帽子の会社(Eugenia Kim)で働いているので急きょショールームにおじゃまさせてもらいました。で、見つけたのが虹色のトリムがある大きなつばの麦わら帽。とってもYukimiっぽい帽子。

当日、夕暮れの時間帯と、海からのやさしい風に、シルクのドレスと大きな帽子、白いエアマックス、最高のパフォーマンス！集まったオーディエンスも本当の音楽好きというのが伝わってきます。新しいことが今まさに起きてるような、そんな雰囲気が広がっていました。

ちなみに親友JiはミッドナイトソニックでYukimiがつけていたヘアピースを作りました。ほんとに美しい芸術品！これもどんな色がいいかな〜　うーん、きっとYukimiの壁のパープルとか、あと最近みた映画のThe Grand Budapest Hotelみたいな感じの色がいいんじゃないかな？？という感じで、あれやこれや想像するのはほんとに楽しかったです。

これからも日本のファンを増やすべく応援していきたいLittle Dragon! また来日してほしいな！
