Chapter 1 - Broken again.
The breeze in the park was stiff. Hardly anyone noticed the two walking through it. One was taller than the other. Even with the others ears standing straight up. They had stopped at a water fountain, where they had had their first date so long before. The older taller one looked nervous and scared. He turned his golden eyes away from pale blue ones and watched a group of kids play in the dancing water shoots. He shook his Onix hair and cat ears laid flat on his head. The matching tail that was longer than he cared to admit curled and uncurled. He played with something in his hoodie pocket.
The smaller and younger hadn't taken notice to his loves odd behavior. He was so excited his milk chocolate bunny ears stood on end. He laughed lightly as kids screamed in joy of the dancing water. This part of the park was so popular for it. He remembered the first night they dated. He had pulled his senpai here. The show had lights and water shoots, it had danced to some lovely music. He had hoped that this memory would make his news easier. "Ryu?" He squeezed the olders hand.
Ryu turned his head and looked into blue eyes. "Yes Senna." his entire self gave the bunny full attention. He used to hate it did that, but he had grown to love the tingle he would get every time his name slid out of the others mouth.
Senna let go of Ryu's hand. "So you remember me telling you about my mother right?" He rubbed his forearm.
"Yeah, we both spoke of our mothers." He watched Senna closely. His years of experience told him that this type of body language meant something was coming. "What about her Hunny Bunny?" He used the pet name to try and defuse the situation.
Senna flinched. Ryu's use of the nickname meant he was freaking out the cat. He sighed hard and closed his eyes. "I hired a private investigator." He said, pushing every word out so fast it sounded like he was trying to race each one out. He then stood for a moment and blinked. "He found her, and I'm gonna go and be with her."
"Senna?" Ryu looked at the bunny hard. "What about us?"
Senna grabbed Ryu's hands. "That's the beauty of it Ryu. I want you to move with me." He smiled at Ryu. His blue gaze looked at his senpai's.
Ryu's hands trembled just like they had before. Senna was looking at his eyes, looking right at him. The words Senna was saying didn't make sense. The two of them had shared so much; Senna was the one who helped him become what he is now. Now he wants the two of them to search for his mother together. Ryu's thoughts raced as he stared. He couldn't do that; he couldn't just drop his job, end his world. Young master Hiroshi wanted him to live in this city with Minato. Ryu promised to do so. "I can't. I just can't." He stepped back. "You know what this place means to me, and most likely." He paused for a moment. "In many years from now, I'll die here." A small flame of anger came out of his hurt. "You leave. If that's what you must do. I wish you the best of luck." Ryu knew Senna had lost his sibling, had lost his mom, he had lost alot. There was no stopping him. "Goodbye then." He wasn't leaving room for Senna to try to change his mind. He turned and began to run. He was glad at this time for his genetic flaw and ran faster than he ever had before.
"But, Ryu please!" Senna called.
Ryu heard the tears and refused to turn and watch them fall. He had sets of his own to spill and once he was in hiding he would. He pulled his hood up, thinking hard as he ran. He stopped only for one moment to throw the small round object that sat in his pocket away. He wasn't gonna need that anymore. He looked at the golden ring on top of a half eaten hotdog a second before turning around and heading off again. Ryu wondered where Senna would never find him. It didn't take long to know that he would be safe at Minato's. Without stopping he ran to the publishing building. Ignoring those around him he chose not to take the elevator up. The stairway was devoid of people or half beings.
Ryu entered Minato's office without knocking. "I need your keys." He blurted.
She looked at the winded cat eared boy before her and the people she was meeting with. His hood had blown off his ears and he was sweating. She began to wonder what the matter was, but said nothing. She merely stood up and walked around to him. She turned to the others in the room. "I'm sorry he's my adopted son. Give me a moment it seems there maybe something wrong at home." She turned to Ryu and lifted the hood over his ears. She then took his hand and pulled him into a second room.
"Minato?" Ryu looked at her.
She smiled lightly. "Those are people interested in your manga." She looked at his eyes and understood a scolding right now was not the time. "Here." She pulled out a set of keys. "I'll see you at home." She kissed his head and watched a tear slide slowly down the normally stoic boy's cheek.
Ryu turned, and walked away. He made his way to the parking lot where he found Minato's car. He got in and drove away.
Ryu didn't want to think. He wasn't gonna allow thought to pass through his mind quite yet to begin with. Driving wasn't his best skill, so for now he needed to focus on it. Once he got to Mina's he could sleep and if the gods were merciful. He'd never wake up.
Minato held out a hand and thanked the people who came to meet with her. She was trying to think of the best way to tell Ryu, he was headed for the states. The United States was less careful towards half being's and she would have to work something out with the client to keep Ryu and Senna safe.
She walked them out, thanked them again and went back in her office. Her mind was in all sorts of places. Ryu doesn't normally storm in like that. He doesn't cry, and never had she seen him with his hood down in front of people before. So if she had to guess Ryu was in some sort of trouble. Knowing him as well as she did, she was most likely correct.
Minato buzzed her assistant and told her she'd be leaving early. Then she called a taxi to pick her up. She then turned and looked at the notes from the meeting and started placing them in a folder. She ran through ideas on how to tell Ryu this news. Going to the US would be good for him. The production of his manga would sky rocket. How does she tell an already upset cat what might be bad news to him?
She placed everything in her bag and turned to look out the window. This company towered most of the city. Ryu's apartment was not too far off, and his park was farther than that. She swore to herself and then stood. She made her way to the lobby where the taxi would meet her and looked at several people in the area. She would never admit it to Ryu, but this company got bigger when he moved in. Everyone was scared of him of course, but their jobs were his to give. Three major series and two on the way, and one of those three had a decent anime deal now. Ryu never asks for money, never requested the fame, never wanted the attention, but he got all that and more with his talent.
None of these employees knew it, but Ryu was far kinder than they thought. Ryu only took a small part of the money he makes. The rest went to those that need it. A mailroom staff with three kids can make as much as the animators several floors above, just for this reason. If your kids were sick and needed treatment, he hears about it, he'll pay it all without you ever knowing. There was just something Ryu had with the world that made him cold and distant.
The taxi pulled up and she walked outside. Before she got in she looked around. She'd never tell him, but this world was brighter with him in it. If she was honest with herself, she felt like she had a second son. This one needed her to go home and show him how much he meant to her.
