Devoted cuisine! Well, apparently everything needs devotion to get the outcome from it, however, here the moment was rather devotional. And that made my friend Arijeeta to try something new which she never tried. Therefore, being a professional chef she had decided to invent something new which she hadn't done before. And thus, she had concocted khichdi, an Indian dish consisting chiefly of rice and split pulses, for this pious occasion: Laxmi Puja. According to legend, Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and Vishnu's wife, visits her devotees and bestows gifts and blessings upon each of them. To welcome the Goddess, devotees clean their houses, decorate them with finery and lights, and prepare sweet treats and delicacies as offerings. Devotees believe the happier Lakshmi is with the visit, the more she blesses the family with health and wealth. Thus, when Khichdi was about to serve, it leaded her further to fry papad, small brinjal pieces, sliced potato pieces. Other than fries she also prepared sweet potato chutney as dessert. As these fries and chutney would go well with Khichdi when you serve it over on a big well cut banana leaf. This was her first attempt to prepare this traditional dish for this kind of occasions, and nevertheless she prepared it so well. It was delicious and I was honored to taste it and represent it to you all as well. Thanks for reading.
