Snow Boys
“Haha! Take! That!” Odd jumped up on his bed as he whooped and Ulrich groaned as he tossed his controller aside.
“Whatever, Odd. Not all of us can spend all our time leveling up in Kung Fu Commando every day,” Ulrich crossed his arms and leaned back on his bed.
Odd looked over at his boyfriend and chuckled, wrapping his arms around him. He dragged Ulrich to his feet -making Ulrich yelp in the process- and kissed his cheek.
“C'mon, good buddy, you're getting a bad case of cabin fever, and the best boyfriend ever isn't gonna let you get any grumpier, so we're going outside,” Odd threw Ulrich's coat at him, and pulled out a box from under his bed. “And this was always planned to be an early Christmas present, so don't even try to say no to it.”
Ulrich rolled his eyes as he pulled back the paper. He opened the box within, and his eyes widened. Inside were hand knit mittens and a matching hat. They fit perfectly when he slid them on, and he moved his hands inside the mittens with a soft smirk. “Thanks, Odd. I...I love it. Thank you.”
“I'm so glad, I made them myself! Apparently Jim knows how to knit, and I asked him to teach me, and he's an even better arts and crafts teacher than a PE teacher. And that's saying something.” Odd grinned as he donned his matching purple knit set and took Ulrich's hand. "We're gonna go build a snowman, and we're not coming back inside for hot cacao until you stop being such a grump."
Ulrich rolled his eyes again and sighed with a smile. "Then we should make a pit stop by the kitchen to get a carrot from Rosa then, shouldn't we?"
Odd cackled and pulled a carrot from his pocket, and Ulrich looked to the sky as if asking for strength as Odd took him into the sport fields. The snow had been falling all night, and it was a blanket well past ankle deep.
"You start on the lower body segment, and I'll work on the middle! You're faster than me, so you get the bigger one!" Odd packed a snowball good and tight, and started rolling it in the soft, slightly damp snow. Small strands of purple came off on the snow, and Ulrich laughed as he started his own snowball. Once it came past his knees, he stopped. Odd had one just below knee level for him, and Ulrich took it from him gently before placing it on top of his green-tinted snowball.
"Now you do the head, and I'll look for a few rocks for buttons?" Ulrich raised an eyebrow and smiled as Odd nodded. Before Odd could run off to start the head, Ulrich grabbed his arm and pressed his lips to Odd's cheek gently. "Thanks for bringing me out. I think I needed it more than I realized."
"No problem, Ulrich. Besides, it was totally selfish of me. I just wanted to build a snowman with you." Odd grinned and squeezed his hand. "Now you find the buttons!"
It took Ulrich a little while to find three similarly sized and shaped rocks to place in the bottom two segments, but when he did, he placed them in the segments as Odd carried over the head. Ulrich had found a few smaller, smoother rocks as well and he placed them as eyes and a smile. Odd pushed in the carrot and two stick arms, and both boys stood back to enjoy their handiwork.
Ulrich smirked as he took his hat off and placed it on the snowman. Odd grinned and pulled another package out of his coat. "I was gonna give you this later, but as long as we're dressing Parson Brown..."
Odd pulled out a long green scarf, a little uneven on either side, and wound it around the snowman's neck with a grin.
"Parson Brown, huh? Like the old Christmas Carol?" Ulrich scoffed and put an arm around Odd.
"Yeah, it's a good name. Would you rather it be the circus clown?" Odd stuck his tongue out and glared playfully.
"Nah, I just wanted to make sure we were getting the same reference. Besides, the circus clown can't perform weddings, can he?" Ulrich smirked down at Odd as Odd blushed vividly.
"Whew, busting out the "w" word a little early, aren't we?" Odd laughed nervously and Ulrich squeezed him closer.
"I'm kidding, I'm kidding. I wanna have a stable job before I ask you to marry me. So also, don't even think about proposing, because if you get to it before I do, I'll be ticked." Ulrich pinched his side gently and kissed the top of his head
"I'll make you a deal. Propose before we're 25, and you won't have to worry about it. After that, it's fair game, because if you haven't popped the question before then, I'll die an old maid without ever getting a ring on this finger," Odd laughed and shoved him gently with his shoulder. Ulrich laughed with him and rubbed his side.
"Now, I hate to take anything from the noble Parson Brown, but I'm getting cold, so I'll be taking my hat and scarf back, and we should head back inside."
"If you must," Odd sighed dramatically. "Poor Parson out here, freezing to death in the bitter cold because Ulrich simply must have his Christmas present."
"He'll be fine, he loves the cold. I, however, do not," Ulrich took his hat and scarf off the snowman, and the two boys started walking back to the main buildings, specifically the cafeteria. When they stepped in and stomped the snow off their boots, they heard a pair of giggles, and looked up to see Milly and Tamiya, the latter holding her video camera. Ulrich looked up, and groaned when he saw the white and green sprig of mistletoe.
Odd flushed a deep red and looked at them with exasperation.
"Well, go on, Odd! He's right there!" Milly squeezed Tamiya's arm, and Odd leaned up on tiptoe to kiss Ulrich's cheek. Ulrich chuckled at the pout on Milly's face before he leaned down to kiss Odd's lips gently. Both girls squealed, and Milly clapped as Odd hid his face in his mittens.
"C'mon Odd, you and I both know that cheek kisses don't count when it comes to mistletoe when you're dating." Ulrich rubbed his arms. "Now, if you'll excuse us, ladies, I can see a pair of geniuses heading this way, and you'll want to get them too, I think. Plus, Odd and I need to get our hot chocolate."
"Okay! Have fun! You two will get a framed copy of the kiss, by the way!"
"I look forward to it," Ulrich guided Odd to the line for hot chocolate and kissed the top of his head. "Are you mad at me?"
"No, just surprised. I never really took you for someone who's big on PDA," Odd leaned on Ulrich gently.
Ulrich sighed and rested his head on Odd's as they waited for their turn."I just...I love you Odd. I don't want to hide it. I spent so long pretending I didn't because I was scared of what my dad would say. I don't want to be afraid anymore. I want to be with you. I want to show people I'm with you."
Odd turned to him and leaned up to kiss his cheek again with a chuckle, tears brimming. "You're such a sap. But I appreciate it."
"Oh my god, don't cry, please," Ulrich teased gently. "You're about to cry, aren't you?"
"Maybe, if you keep saying such sweet stuff like you have been. Wanting to show off that you're with me, wanting to make sure you're the one to propose to me. You're one smooth operator, Ulrich Stern." Odd laughed
"I have no idea how, honestly, sometimes flirting feels like skydiving without a parachute." Ulrich laughed with him. "But I love you, Odd."
"I love you too, Ulrich."
