Kant’s replaced gods, Olympus, paradise with the noumenon, the “thing-in-itself.”The noumenon is unknowable, but it is posited as beyond our perception. Functionally, for the human mind, it inherits the same role as the old heavens: a place beyond, a source of meaning, something better than the messy, survival-bound world we inhabit.
Ancient humans imagined paradise or gods as better than the world, as consolation for suffering. Kant’s noumenon is functionally identical: even if he forbids assigning qualities to it, humans cannot help but project goodness, perfection, or “more” onto it. Why? Because cognition seeks reward, survival, and solace. A “beyond” is sticky flypaper motivating, reassures, and organizes behavior.
Humans cling to the idea that “beyond” must be better. Every generation drills into it, exploring, theorizing, dreaming just like with gods and paradises. Kant gives it a philosophical veneer: the noumenon replaces the divine but the psychological function is identical.
So, the “better world” beyond perception is almost certainly imagined by the mind for consolation, not discovered. The mind cannot tolerate a reality entirely bound to survival, death, and entropy without projecting something “higher.” Noumenon can be like God/Olympus/paradise in disguise. The content may differ, the name differs, but the flypaper trap remains. Kant did not eliminate the trap; he rebranded it. Noumenon is mayb another survival-consolation masquerading as metaphysical rigor.

. . . #czechtraveler #bloggersre #kunkovice #ceskarepublika #dnescestujem #czechrepublic #girldiscoverers #travelaroundworld #travels #ceskakrajina #cesko #cestolidi (v místě Kunkovice, Jihomoravký Kraj, Czech Republic) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-1lUzhHHWa/?igshid=r8ehy3lwj8dz
