RUSH WEEK — KUNTER 👬
⇥ Moving from small town Ohio to the bright and shining lights of Los Angeles had proven to be a big step for Kurt Hummel. He’d always planned on going to New York after high school, but his plans didn’t work out when he received a letter of rejection from NYADA and only made it into schools close to home or on the other side of the country. There wasn’t necessarily anything wrong with Ohio; the cities were decently sized, Ohio State was an interesting campus, and Cedar Point was great. But none of it felt like independence and that was the thing that Kurt craved the most. He’d never spent more than a few days outside of the confines of Ohio and he was determined to find himself on his own. While UCLA and Los Angeles in general hadn’t been his first choice in starting his future, they were going to be enough. It helped that he had a friend at his side for the trek across the country. Sam Evans, his best male friend from home and roommate in the freshman dorms, was as excited about moving to California as Kurt would have been if they were headed for The Big Apple.
But having Sam around helped with the transition - especially since they were now sleeping within ten feet of each other every night. They spent the first semester getting accustomed to the city and their new campus. Kurt finding the most desirable stores and coffee shops, Sam feeling out the comic book stores and local gyms. The first semester of classes was difficult, but nothing that they hadn’t expected. Kurt did well and helped Sam along in the general education classes that he wasn’t feeling one hundred percent positive about. By the time winter break came around and they were still really only friends with each other, Sam decided that it was time they expanded their social horizons. After a brief winter break in an Ohio snow storm, they returned to California ready for the new semester and glad they’d figured out their way around - for the most part. On Sam’s suggestion, they decided to check out some of the fraternities during Rush Week for the Spring semester.
Where Sam was excited about the parties and girls, Kurt was unsure of how well he’d ever fit into that kind of environment. Sam wasn’t nervous, dressing in his usual attire and Kurt with his excessive nerves, dressed up like he was going on a first date. There were going to be guys there, after all. It was inevitable that at least one or two of them would be gay and possibly interested in making his night a little more interesting than staring at boobs and drinking booze. Clad in tight black jeans and a shirt that stretched, fitted and teal across his chest, Kurt left the freshman dorms and walked arm in arm with his best friend. They found Greek Row easily, navigating until Sam found a house that looked like a good time. If Kurt had to be here, he’d at least like to be somewhere interesting. All the houses hosted parties, but the one with the most noise and the brightest lights caught Sam’s attention span first. He practically had to drag Kurt up the steps and into the house, his boots scuffing and stumbling through the front door. Once inside and with a drink shoved unceremoniously into his hand, Kurt let himself relax - enough so that he’d lost his blonde friend to a pretty brunette with a large rack and was left to stand against a wall with peeling wallpaper. He held the red plastic cup to his lips, letting his eyes dance over the crowd before landing on a dark set of eyes that were watching him intently.
