I‘m so happy with how this piece turned out! I’ll have to scan it and post it again, because it’s a little hard to see this way, but it just goes to show how well a piece can work out when you actually have an idea in your head of what you want! Kupala Night in Ukraine

Kupala Night, also known as Ivan Kupala Day, is a Ukrainian observance annually held on July 7 to celebrate the summer solstice.

        of course , dedue had heard of the whisperings of these witches that could do rather extraordinary things. it didn’t seem like something so openly spoken about --- or perhaps people weren’t speaking to him about it --- but it was something he knew of vaguely. in short , he wouldn’t know he was standing in front of them.

Kupala Night Follow the wreath Down rushing dark water, Follow the flame That flickers and sputters, Find thee the maiden That has woven the fronds For she is yr true love Break yr heart from its bonds. Follow the flicker To swamp dismal deep The sword fern's spores Shows where treasure sleeps. Find thee the fern flower On midsummer's eve Speak with the birds Wear yr heart on yr sleeve Fear not the wild Hidden from mortal eyes For this is the price Of the ageless prize. Continuing my poem of the day/morning pages series, with art to go with. Am still thinking a lot about the natural world, natural magick/mysticism. This ones about some of the #folklore about ferns, focusing on the rites of #KupalaNight. Young girls would weave wreaths of ferns fronds and whoever found it was supposed to be their true love.
