MY HUSBAND.
The 1999 version of HxH is so different from the 2011 version I'm so happy I decided to watch it. I keep meaning to make a list of all the differences from the 2011 but I keep forgetting so in the meantime here’s a few of them:
Overall, more development of how the characters met / interact
Some of the situations are changed and the charater’s actions are different (ex: Leorio got on the bus that pretended like it was going to take people to the exam site but didn’t, the events during the tower phase of the exam are a little different)
Most notable difference: Hisoka is less of a creepy perv (thank heavens)
I feel like they handled the Leorio vs. Leroute scene better? Like it’s still problematic and disgusting but they made it less creepy than the 2011 version and overall I feel like it didn’t trash Leorio’s character as much as the 2011 version did.
Tonpa’s true nature was revealed a lot earlier
Killua’s development is a little different
There’s WAY more of a focus on what’s happening between each phase of the Hunter Exam which is great and gives all the characters more development (even outside of the main cast)
There’s a LOT of Kurapika and Leorio moments (I can understand even more now why people ship them wow).
Kurapika can definitely be read as trans
Illumi shows up more
Small scenes of Illumi + Hisoka working behind the scenes that significantly influence their character development / my understanding of them as characters
There are entire episodes and story arcs that didn’t appear in the 2011 version
Idk there’s more but this is the major stuff I can remember off the top of my head
I wouldn’t say it’s better than the 2011 version, since I feel like aspects of the 2011 version make for better storytelling / for suspense (though the 1999 version beats the 2011 version for some scenes), but the 1999 version does a wonderful job building character’s personalities and it’s charming. It’s certainly worth watching.
It does, in fact (referring to your tags)
sweet~
How to tell if someone is my anime crush: They have their own tag on my blog that's just their name and the last letter of it 4 times
