I had an Important Thought while trying to sleep the other night and I need a second opinion. So the Revos are supposed to be on top of Knowledge and Knowing Shit, especially Shit That People Don't Want Others To Know, right???? So why would they wait till getting the fucking newspaper about what happened at Marineford?? Like I get if it's not Top Priority for knowing, but wouldn't they know that the media lies (#FakeNews)??? So why would they take it at face value so easily?? I am disgruntled.

haha that is a very good point, and i’ve always believed the revs would know not to believe the newspaper....ofc the meta reason is just that oda probably thought it would be cool artistically to have sabo crying over the newspaper and his tears falling on the picture of ace and stuff lol, but from an in-canon perspective that’s interesting to think about...

hmm i would say they probably had to learn from the newspaper bc marineford happened so fast and communications were completely blocked out of it so they had no other way of knowing- like they prob knew everything up to the actual battle from communication with their people, but then sengoku blocked out the media and everyone was so distracted by fighting that they lost communications for a few hours??  

and newspapers probably go out pretty quickly in the op world, especially when they’re reporting a victory for the world gvt, since they’re....made and distributed by birds or w/e.  so i doubt they got the paper like a whole day or two later- it was prob the very same day and just happened to be their first source of info before ivankov was able to call them.

as for why they believed it...idk i figure they know better than to trust the details, but really all they gleaned from the newspaper was 1) whitebeard and ace are dead, and 2) ivankov is alive (which they know is true bc if iva were dead the paper would probably be bragging about it).  there were also straight up pictures of ace’s dead body in the paper, so there might have been other pictures, and while text is easy to fake stuff like that is harder.

so yeah haha.  that’s my explanation.  they probably just got info about the big picture from the newspaper, knowing they’d get the full story from ivankov and co soon once things settled down.

ppl seem to be doubting my judgment on this, but imo there’s no chance ace and sabo will drop out of the top 10.  ace has literally been in the top 10 every single popularity poll since his introduction.  sabo was number 5 before 787, 792 and 794 even came out (all of those being very sabo-centric chapters.) 

and i mean....who would beat them now that didn’t beat them before???  sanji’s obviously skyrocketed in popularity with the new arc, but he was already ahead of both of them so that doesn’t matter.  nami might have risen, but she was already in the top 10 anyway so if anything she and ace or sabo might just swap.  prob the most popular new characters are the vinsmokes and while i do think they’ll be high up, i doubt any will even break the top 10.  same with the minks- they’re popular, but sure aren’t top 10 material.

if i had to guess, my prediction would be this: 1. luffy, 2. sanji, 3. law, 4. zoro, 5. nami, 6. chopper, 7. sabo/ace, 8. sabo/ace (their votes were ridiculously close last time so idk who’d be which) 9. robin, 10. marco.  and then hancock, brook, jinbe, reiju, bartolomeo, usopp, etc.   i can’t wait to see how wrong i am tho lol

yeah, it was weird bc i usually agree with his anime opinions haha. but to me it seems really obvious that no one should use movie 6 as an intro to op if they wanna get a taste of what it’s actually like.  if anything, it’s a better intro to mamoro hosuda (the director, who also did summer wars, wolf children etc) than to one piece, because it’s so clearly his own style and technique.  you would definitely get a false idea of the feel of one piece if you watched movie 6 first :’D

Ayyyye to each their own. I see where you mean about people not knowing canon versus not (which btw the link I posted for that actually states "mostly canon" "mostly filler" "filler" "canon" so there is some clue-in about whether it's all canon or not. Idk if it goes into detail or not but oh well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) We have different approaches but that's okay^^ One piece is great no matter what lol also i'm being distracted from accounting homework for this so you're not alone lmao

ahh yes i kno, it’s just like....even if you know an episode is partially filler, it’s not as though you’ll know which parts, and even if you did it’d be a bit disruptive to keep trying to stop and start the episode to skip it ahaha :’D

i don’t think the one piece anime is on par with the manga or is as good as the manga deserves and i never will, but i still appreciate its existence for the voice actors/music/the fact that it allows for making amvs and gifs (hell i spend half my heckin life giffing op so of course i’m happy there’s an anime to gif) 

aaand simply for the fact that i know most people who love/prefer the anime do so because they have trouble with or don’t like reading manga or need to see something with color/movement/audio to fully appreciate it, and while i can’t relate to that at all bc i’m such an avid manga reader, i’m so grateful that the anime exists so that those people can still enjoy the series.

Even if you think they're minor, still give them a go if you want. You'd be surprised how many people might recognize them. I'm still not over the (7 or 9, I can't quite remember) times I was recognized as luffy at a frat party. I didn't have a wig or anything on, and I mashed his pre- and post- timeskip outfits because yolo and people still got it.

ahhh tru, i actually had people recognize me in a hotel near one of the cons when i was only half dressed as sabo and didn’t have my wig or scar makeup on :’D but then again, i think that can only really happen when they are such well-known characters as sabo or esp luffy who’s one of the most iconic anime characters of all time.

i’ve gone to cons as more minor characters before and the reception is so low....i feel like there’s much more need to look perfectly like them/have props etc when cosplaying a minor character bc otherwise no one can tell who you are.  i just don’t think i could do it tbh, i’ve been so spoiled by the reception i get from being sabo who’s a very popular and recognizable character that i just don’t wanna be a character less people know //orz
