🍼 - A Child (Theirs or Not)
“Children? No, I don’t have one of my own. But… ” A smile formed gradually, a slight curve of lips that softened the overly focused expression. “My Sister’s daughter is likely the one I see at least once a week. Eleniel.” A quiet chuckle. “She makes sure to wear her little red cloak every time I visit. Silly thing.”
The scarlet-clad lady of imports hadn’t completely been paying attention to who was asking her such questions, assuming it was another figure on the dock trying to make small talk. When her verdant gaze finally floated up to settle on the face next to her, meaning to ask the same question in return, she went quiet, that practiced smile slackening with a surprised recognition.
“…wait…”
…wasn’t that man dead…?

38. Has a roleplayer ever changed your view on a character? If so, how? Good or bad? For better or for worse?
My characters evolve from their interactions in RP, so in a way, a lot of roleplayers have done this for me. You’re a prominent example of this for Seo-yun and Colpeia. ;D For instance, Seo-yun’s interactions with Kurel had me consider to what length he values family members in his adult life, even when they act (in his opinion) less than brotherly. His interaction with Colpeia further clarified how she weighs her greatest value, friendship, with letting go of someone for everyone’s betterment, despite still loving them. I’d say those have all been for the better.
There have been instances when a roleplayer’s influence was more destructive than helpful, sadly. Years ago, the player behind my character’s boyfriend kept insisting that she looked differently than the way I wrote her to look. He’d write about her ‘beautiful emerald eyes,’ even though I explicitly mentioned they were cyan. I figured there was a miscommunication. Eventually I made them aqua green; I liked that color better anyway, and didn’t think such a small thing was worth fussing over. Later, he was generous enough to draw her. It was a very sweet gesture. But he projected his own image onto mine a second time, regardless of how I had always described her. (For one, she was drawn with a boyish pixie cut. Her hair is shoulder-length. I didn’t budge again.) This made me see how true it is that an author’s choice is theirs. Influence is okay so long as it’s still a choice that you comfortably own. And it’s certainly not okay to manipulate or pressure an author into changing their creative choices for your benefit, even with a guilt-attempting veneer of sweetness.
Another time, a roleplayer tried to change how I viewed/played my character, but didn’t succeed. She gaslighted both me and my muse. I stopped speaking to her. I don’t tolerate toxic players.
In short, I learned to choose my RP partners wisely. The ones you keep are the writers/actors who work with you, not against you.
Thanks for the ask, @kurel-andiel! <3
39. When people look at your character, is there some assumption they might make about them just by appearance? Is that assumption correct?
[Depending on Jack’s outfit, people have assumed a great deal about him. One man assumed he was some homeless beggar because he doesn’t like wearing shoes on his time off when actually, he was the Head Lead of Portal Research Studies for Khadgar. Others mistake him for a rogue when he has on his sailing attire and when he’s in a certain mindset, it’s hard to realize how complex he is. Case in point, someone recently was complaining that Jack was nothing more than a hyperactive MLP on Crack rip off because of his obsession with cupcakes. Those who have taken the time to get to know him realize that’s not just what he is about. They assume he’s cute and harmless when really he’s just an asshole.]

5. Do you make it up as you go along, or do you plot and strictly stick to the plot?
I don’t think I’ve ever had a plot before.
The closest thing is when Mal and Hanth decided to have a kid and me and Mal’s mun discussing how exactly it would happen. How long it’d take oocly, repeatedly flipping coins for gender, even pondering the genetics and potentially something bad happening.
Outside of that I entirely make it up as I go. Sometimes I have meaningful long term interactions and other times it’s just HEY I’M RPING WITH ATM HOPE YOU ENJOY IT.
This pretty much applies to all of my toons. Maybe one day I’ll have plots for them, but that’s far away!
Kurel collected from the crew all of their comms and after having done such, Jackary was the last. "Those runes you was talkin' 'bout the other day. I wan' a comm rune on every person of this crew an' I wan' em all bound to me as the catalyst. "
The Mage had been lost in his own thoughts, having zoned out in the middle of working on adjusting one of the riggings to help prepare for sailing out within the day but he soon paused when the scent of the Captain filled the air around him. Upon the voice speaking to him, Jackary pulled himself together enough to look over and pay attention.
“Th’ runes? Th’ ones that bounce off a crystal ‘n enable th’ person or creature to see whatever th’ rune is on?” He wanted to be sure, there was no sense in boldly daring to assume whatever the Captain meant. As he asked for clarification, Jack stood slowly from his spot, stepping closer until he stood comfortably close, not particularly having the energy to speak up much past a soft tone.
