He was silent.
Though that wasn’t anything out of the ordinary it was different at that moment, no ‘thanks’ not even a grunt or a mumble. A slightly nervous laugh came from her as she watched him for a few more moments, it seemed like he wasn’t making any movements to open it right there but she wasn’t about to give up that easy!
Her eyes fell from his face for a moment to glance at the silver box in his hands, white snowflakes scattered across the shiny paper. “Aha.. I didn’t have any birthday wrapping paper so I just used Mitsuru’s extra Christmas paper, it’s still pretty though!” She tried to make conversation to get him to say anything.
"Open it?" She began to nibble on her bottom lip, quickly becoming more and more nervous for each moment of silence between them.
「 愚者 — The Fool. 」
He decides to honor her request, nodding slightly and looking back down at the box. Now that she mentions it, the elegant looking patterns do make the paper seem as if it's something Mitsuru would have. And in hindsight, the snowflakes do seem a bit out of touch despite it still being December.
Oh, well. It doesn't matter, anyway. If it gets her to clear the path quicker, he'll disregard the box's appearance and just open it.
He's careful in unwrapping it. Rather odd given his current disposition. But he simply lacks that eagerness that should accompany the action of opening a gift. It takes a few seconds--maybe even a minute, who knows--before the box's lid can finally be lifted. And he does just that, awaiting what's inside with a vague ennui.
