Inktober day 14- Fragmented

Kur’s whole bit is that they don’t recall anything from the first fourteen years of their life. That was caused by a traumatic near death experience about roughly 9 to 10 years ago in the story. Kur vehemently denies that they have connections to those events. Even when their own subconscious relives that night every single night, Kur refuses to believe in any of it. They put on a smile and just work through it without actually confronting it.

Like most tales of denial, those ugly truths will be creeping in very quickly and without warning. Be it a long lost twin who’s been trying to protect you or estranged parents who are equally selfish despite having opposing views. Top it all off with a detective who is way in over his head and you got the makings of a really not so simple story.

You gotta move forward. You gotta acknowledge that ugliness- even if your memories of those events are muddled. Don’t lie to yourself.

I had these floating around a bit and colored them because why not. Liked how they looked and decided to share ya’ll.

While Plague’s on the back burner- I liked the idea of going back to Kur and Viola Iris because they seemed fun to work with.

I don’t have a full on solid lock on the story for them, though I do I have a general gist.

Kur has no recollection of the first 14 years of their life and has moved on without much acknowledgement of it. All they know is that one- they were born and raised in Winterfell and two- they were raised by ‘dogs’. Kur spent the last 10 years since then working for the Diamond Dogs- an all snow elf guild that deals mainly in deliveries and security. By all accounts, Kur lives a simplistic life- working and basically taking care of their beloved dogs. Kur cares not for what is essentially a dead life (ei the lost memories) and smiles in content for their current life.

Viola Iris- or simply ‘Ms.Iris’, laments over a terrible ‘loss’ that occurred over a decade ago. When she sees Kur, she recognizes them. Kur doesn’t know her, despite the familiarity she exudes. She bumps heads with them since she’s from a rival guild ‘Cats Eye Gang’. Ms. Iris lives a complicated life surrounded by her work, her issues and some shady dealings. She vows to save Kur- as they saved her supposedly.

That’s all I have so far, will be tweaked.

:p Welp, thank you Kur for stealing the creative spotlight. :1 I apologize in advance for Plague’s impromptu hiatus. I’ve been wanting to have a change of pace and work on another character. Kur came up as they are a character I’ve been wanting to flesh out more. I’ve thought out of a solid storyline. Yet, I am currently in the process of detangling all this mystery stuff.

Their whole story revolves around the concept of forgiving and forgetting vs regretting and remembering- on top of an investigation that’s been going on for almost a decade. Kur is stuck in the middle of it and only wants to move on from whatever this mess is.

Unfortunately, life isn’t so simple...

“My name is Viola-Iris...”

I’ve wanted to flesh out Kur for a while and the idea is I have a foil in the form of this new Oc. I put a lot of thought into this, please forgive me.

Viola-Iris or Vi-ris( she hates this shorten version as it sounds close to virus) or simply “Ms. Iris” is a strange lady the Kur bumps into time to time. She’s in a rival guild known as the Cats Eye Gang, they often bump heads with Kur’s group- the Diamond Dogs. Despite being on the opposing side, Iris seems pretty nice to em. Rumor has it, she’s just as strong as Kur.

She’s haunted by the forgotten past she shares with Kur. Iris tries to explain that Kur and her were twins of a semi-notorious noble house. That their mother was killed by their father after something went down. That Kur took a hit so that Iris could escape, resulting the first 14 years of Kur’s life to erased from their mind. Iris joined the Cats Eye Gang to keep tabs on em after finding out Kur survived.

Naturally, Kur doesn’t recall or care to recall. Their reasoning is that their life currently is better and rather not dwell on past events. Though, time to time they do have headaches (another side effect of being shot in the head). Iris is sort of craving the past, as she’s always stuck in a loop of events that led to her life changing. She wants what she knows she can, never have back. Which is why she’s so fixated on trying to get Kur or “Kurias” (Kur’s full name) to remember that they are her twin. She copes by working hard at her guild and investigating mysteries time to time.

In short, one’s looking forward and one’s looking backward...

I wanted to get some more Kur because they have been on my mind recently and honestly, I missed drawing these over the top reactions.

Kur is very excitable like a good doggo, aiming to please their clients and hopefully make good coin for all the puppers they take in and pay rent in the local guild they live at (Owned by the Diamond Dogs, an all snow elf mercenary group stationed in Winterfell).

Kur hates their full name (Kurias) because it sounds like Curious and people make full use of that knowledge, they have suplexed people without mercy over this. They feel they aren’t taken as seriously when peeps maliciously do that, it’s already hard enough being 4′11 and being mistaken for a kiddo because of that. If it’s unintentional, they give a small warning; follow up by please and thank you.

Kur is also easily startled, mostly because in their younger days; they were victim to many of an ambush. Hence when someone or something in close proximity does this, Kur accidentally decks them in the snozz; knocking them out cold. They apologize profusely and have been trying to control their strength, still doesn’t fix all those accidental broken noses.

Reintroducing Kur because despite the original history behind Kur’s creation, I couldn’t part with this bubbly fighter. Their whole stick is that they’re super outgoing merc for hire and despite dealing in punches for pennies, is actually doing it to feed doggos; because they were raised by doggos and the guild they work for. They tamed and befriended Cerberus (Cer-bur-rus), who carries Kur everywhere during their long trips between jobs.

And they tend to have a keen sense of people, which leads them to absolutely having no time for manipulative assholes or dramatics. They’re easily startled, results in decking the poor soul in their snozz. They use mostly they and them, though they don’t mind he and him pronouns. 

Did I mention they don’t recall much of anything prior to their current life now, save for a rumor that Winterfell (an immigration town bordering between the Earth Kingdom and the Sovereignty of Snow) is their home town.
