At this stage I’m thinking :re has a personal meaning to Touka and would be something like :return, while the series as a whole is called :re= one-eyed King! But I really wonder- that connection must be important in some way!

Oh why thank you. I mean it does depend on what pairings you’re interested in, so I’ll recommend from a few different pairings... Without recommending any unfinished fics.

Take Me To Church by Harukalevi, is amazing, it’s an Iwaoi fic which while has a modern setting is quite religion heavy but doesn’t demonise religion overall, it just highlights how religion has some really shitty people in it. It’s got a word count of around 43k. It has a mature rating on Ao3 I believe.

Lose, Lose by Kingdra, this one is an OiKuroo fic, is the classic Oikuroo college au with some smut in it, as well as the second most iconic au, the coffee shop au. The angst in it is also really good as well. Word count 30k+, explicit rating as well.

Kuroo Tetsurou’s Torturous Two Years by ThePurpleStarfish A Kuroaka fic, Kuroo’s super gay, Akaashi’s super hot and the first time he interacts in the fic he’s sassing Bokuto so you know it’s an accurate portrayal, for once Bokuto is just the matchmaker. It’s a canon divergence but like not way off course. Word count 11k and with a Teen Rating.

Our Private Spectacle by Itachitachi Bokuroaka smut, but it’s never a threeway, it’s more like Bokuto and Kuroo are fucking, Kuroo gets Akaashi in by making out with him a little, then Bokuto and Akaashi get it on... There is a genuine storyline to it even if the word count is only a bit over 7K words.

Exhaustion by Stelluric Oikage it’s mostly early relationship stuff, but it’s pretty cute, beginning like just before the first practice match between the two teams. Word count of 21k Teen rating.

Both of Volana’s Futakama fics on Ao3 are excellent as well, they’re smut but they’re still pretty cute too. both are under 10k words.

Oikawa is probably anxious to begin with - especially with half the team having thought he was dating Iwaizumi - but eases into the relationship, figuring out his own way of communicating with Ushijima without too many words (lest he fall into his habit of teasing and leaving his clueless boyfriend wondering why it was bad kneel before him even though he had just told him to do so).

Ushijima isn’t anxious about their relationship, only anxious about what comes out of his mouth; he’s aware that he can sound blunt, and that he doesn’t quite get sarcasm (yet, he’s learning), and so he’s grateful when Oikawa suggests they make up their own language of various gestures so they can get their messages across without the confusion.

But there’s one thing they both agreed could only be spoken between them, “I love you”.

KurooOi

They most likely got together by half-accident, Oikawa being his usual flirtatious self, and Kuroo trying to make him drop the act with the most awful puns he can muster, this leading to them setting up a date while in the middle of a practice match with both teams hearing the entire thing (much to their disgust).

When they’re settled in their relationship, Oikawa’s flirtatiousness to others drops considerable, meanwhile Kuroo starts using less puns in normal conversation, a silent agreement with each to keep what got them together special - even if it does make their team wonder what the hell happened to them for the first month or two.
