admittedly, it doesn't take much to set shane off more often than not. it's not exactly something he's proud of, but it's who he is and who he has been for his whole life

yet, nothing pisses shane off more than putting the people he loves in danger.

despite the situation diffusing, the former deputy still needs the hands on him-whose they are, he's unsure of- holding him back.

there was something about the man that didn't sit right with him when he first came across their camp. no, it wasn't because of his ethnicity. shane's not perfect, but he does his best to be a decent person. it's rather because of the look in the man's eye. shane's seen a lot of people during his tenure as county deputy, and sure, most of them were actually decent people.

though, every so often, there'd be someone that has a glint or lack there of in someone's eyes that shook shane to his core. those were always the ones that were the most difficult to handle, and not for the reasons most would think.

he knows full well he should have trusted his gut when he met this guy.

blue eyes watch the cop across from him oh-so-closely. watching and waiting. observing ; taking in all the details that he can. the man seems more calm than those prior. the other officers with their fists and their anger ; so quick to attack, so quick to accuse. it isn’t a surprise, the way that they are — quite frankly, he’s more off put by the calmness this one is exhibiting. most of them have been full of rage. most of them are too busy trying to show off to actually do anything the proper way. it’s peculiar to have one who actually seems to be remotely levelheaded about all of this.

it grabs eddie’s attention, the response that his question gets. head snaps up from where it had lowered, a gleam flickering in those bright blues. it’s small and almost imperceptible, but still there. everyone runs away — the pretty girls with their flowing hair and their dresses are the worst offenders. rejecting him, refusing his advances, not saving him. the officers all give up and leave when they realize they cannot pull the truth from him ; after all, as they say, they already know know everything, so what’s the point of wasting their breath on a man determined to keep his secrets?

but this one, though … he’s different. that much is clear to see.

“ is that so? ” he replies, hands clasped together neatly ( as much as they can be, given the handcuffs he wears ) beneath the desk. “ you’ll have to forgive me if i doubt the sincerity of that. ” there’s a pause, followed by gluskin adding, “ what is exactly you’re wanting me to talk about, detective? after all, like you said, the department already has its evidence. what more can you possibly want me to tell you? ” a laugh and a shake of the head. “ i do believe you already have everything you could want — i doubt there’s anything i can say or show you that would make a difference. ”

still, there’s something about the way that the detective is watching him that has him on edge. he can’t quite put his finger on it but it’s there nonetheless. it piques his interest, as much as he hates to admit it.

"I wasn't asking you to do that." Standing back to back, a forfeit of position hadn't been the request that he'd aimed to foster, a detrimental decision that stays firmly packed away, rather than utilised. The fact was, the numbers weren't in their favour, a simple calculus that saw both the Spider and stranger opposed four to one, on both sides. Hemmed in. Or were they.

There were options to avail of, ways of settling this pending streetside brawl without drawing a drop of blood. Not known for being virtuous, and certainly not opposed to using his fists, arms rise to defend his sides, gaze briefly gauging the wall of thugs looking him over in turn, before he glanced back to the stranger standing behind him to quip.

"Chances are this lot might hold a different opinion." Smearing the character of their opposition was too much to resist, but now that Miguel had dampened that urge somewhat -- at the risk of riling up their foes in the process -- he could better concentrate on the formation of a plan, condensable into two clear and familiar sounding choices; fight or flight.

"Should we take them?" Leaning into the pending skirmish would grant them a better chance to get the shock away from this part of town and regroup by laying their foes out cold, an advantage that fleeing outright certainly lacked. Yet the trade-off wasn't without some appeal, with a better physical condition and less chance of injury possible, at the expense of more backup being called to join in the hunt. "How well can you withstand a punch?"

Lee hadn't necessarily been prepared to travel as far as she has, nor for as long, but there she was unpacking her luggage into her long-term temporary abode. Tokyo was beautiful from the vantage point her hotel window cast down into the bright open districts. Different entirely from the comfort of her forests and dirt roads, but still fascinating to be in the center of. Lee just wished her first visit would've had nothing to do with work.

It's the next morning when she's headed to the precinct assignment to meet the detectives responsible for her joint investigation. Lee had done some minor research beforehand with what the F.B.I. could provide her, already weaving webs of attraction and patterns in what she could find so that she was prepared for the brief today. She walks in with a vacant sort of confidence, redirected to an empty conference room save one other man.

She bows, trying to remember herself and her manners in the customs of another country. A moment passes and she stands in full again, willing herself to meet the man's eyes.

"Who can really say?" Playful tone prominent as ever, Zhao grinned like either he was a child poorly hiding a secret or a cocky little brat that wasn't afraid of the consequences that might be headed his way.

"Didn't see where it went off to," He offered unhelpfully, and began to glance around to look for any sign of it. Nothing from what he could see. Zhao, unsurprisingly, wouldn't move from where he stood. Instead he'd just shrug his shoulders and bring his hands up with his palms out to portray just how stumped he was.

"It's supposed t'stay in that holster, ain't it?"

"You think I need a weapon against you?"

He may, or may not. That was neither here nor there at that point. Yagami wasn't looking for a physical fight right now. He kept his arms firmly crossed over his chest and his eyes square on Kuroiwa. Even if his intentions were clear enough, he knew better than to let his guard down around him.

Then just came the obvious question: what was this all about? Just a means for Kuroiwa to play with him, or something more?

"Is there a point to this, or are you here to try to intimidate me?"

Zhao wanted to laugh at such a weirdly ominous yet benign statement. For now, though, he maintained his relatively neutral expression, albeit now supporting a slightly furrowed brow that came with his confusion more than anything.

"... Right. Days do like to do that. Keep coming one after the other. Wanna elaborate there?"

Of course a day he's in Kamurocho he gets stopped by the locals. Someone "important," or at least thought he was important, he assumed by the way he carried himself. Zhao shoved his hands in his pockets out of habit.

Pre-outbreak: it would have absolutely been inshaneinthebrain or walshthiway because he's an idiot coupled with the fact that he absolutely listened to "Insane in the Brain" by Cypress Hill and "Walk This Way" by Run D.M.C. ft. Aerosmith constantly when the songs came out.

Post-outbreak/modern: After everything, he wouldn't have any sort of social media that would require a username. The isolation he felt during the outbreak would absolutely be amplified by social media, and, assuming if there were internet access, seeing other people be happy and out doing things or at least be not alone would only make him feel all the more lonely.
