i don't think i'll ever understand just what the hell is going on in wien rodelinda ( who's that random woman with grimoaldo? why does unulfo have kids? eduige???? ) but there's just a certain energy to the "prigioniera hò l'alma in pena" scene that's incredibly powerful and incredibly sexy.

So it's Handel's birthday today. This aria is a personal favorite of mine; it really caught me off guard when I saw Rodelinda at the Met. Tenor Kurt Streit sings Grimoaldo's 'Pastorello d'un povero armento' from Handel's 'Rodelinda.'
