locating loki only takes a few moments. he steps into the house, listens for the sounds of LIFE-- breathing, heart-beat, etc. and heads to where he hears them. he pauses in the doorway of the room and lightly knocks on the door frame, a bit of politeness rarely offered. he’s sure it’s unnecessary, that loki knows he’s standing there, but when you want something from someone, it’s generally better to be polite about it.

he’s had time to think about what he wants to say, though he’s not happy to be saying any of it. “you were a hunter, right? before they caught you?” that’s the rumor anyway and he doubts it’s far from the truth. “i...” a pause. the next words taste vile and he hasn’t even said them yet. his jaw clenches for a moment before he can force them out. “i need your help.”

a long day now ends, and jim is GLAD of it. a difficult job ( gone right, thankfully ) and a DINNER with an associate ( well, EX-ASSOCIATE as per the bullet now lodged in his brain ) had filled his day with stress and a headache. not only did a hot chocolate and a book await him, but so did a particular god of mischief. 

the door closes behind him, jim finally inside and away from idiots and the world. a mixture of london’s winter and loki’s heat preferences renders the room SLIGHTLY chillier than jim would usually have it. it is an indication that the GOD is home. even if jim’s preference is to be swimming in warmth, this little detail gives him a different comfort. 

jim looks up only to see loki standing in front of him, a familiar and MOST DEFINITELY mischievous grin on his face. eyebrows raising and suspicion growing, jim is about to ask what exactly—

oh. mistletoe. 

his eyes catch sight of the plant hanging from the ceiling, right below him. white berries DANGLE alongside fresh green leaves, beckoning the two to the old ( childish ) tradition. jim usually finds the concept RIDICULOUS ( it is ) and normally would WALK AWAY if it were anyone else. loki is literally a NORSE GOD, so this tradition actually makes sense.

‘ well, would you look at that. ’

ON TIPTOES ( damn the height difference ), he is ( barely ) able to reach the god’s lips, and no hesitation comes with the next step. 

‘ do you really need to use MISTLETOE, of all things, as an excuse to kiss me? ’

seeing how his this idiot liked to set fire to unimportant papers, jim had to unfortunately do SO. he breathed a sigh of relief when the god settled on the couch looking quite smug, only to have a pout replace the expression. 

perhaps if loki came home more often

the ALARM seems to delay when the criminal’s comment is given. jim is not IRATE about the fact loki left the realm for six months, but he sure is bothered by it. the crimson is all over the god’s body, and cuts and gashes SPOT most open areas of skin. obscured bruises would soon MANIFEST, he imagines, and most likely multiple bones were broken. clearly, for a god with centuries of training and with faster healing abilities, he got his ARSE HANDED TO HIM. 

the direness of the situation FINALLY registers.

‘ alright, alright. TRY and put your arm around me so you don’t COLLAPSE outside. ’

              HOWEVER  LONG  THIS  GOES  ON   //   HE  SHAN'T  GET  USED  TO  IT.  the  feel  of  teeth  buried  in  flesh  now  LITTERED  with  scars  or  the  touch  of  a  vampire  shall  earn  the  same  reflexes  from  him.  hands  move  to  grasp  a  pale  throat  and  loki’s  own  spring  to  grasp  offending  ones ;  grip  enough  to  hold  them  still     (   if  only  for  moments  before ,  as  he  KNOWS ,  alexi  will  pull  them  free   ).     he  does  not  speak ,  but  there  is  no  need.  both  know  his  meaning  by  now.

              there’s something almost amusing in the way the other never seems to stop RESISTING. as though he thinks the end result won’t be the same now as it is every other time. ( he won’t admit it, but he admires that sort of stubbornness. few are that brave in the face of a vampire. or maybe loki is just STUPID. )  he holds the other’s gaze for a long moment without comment before he pulls one hand free, fingers reaching to wrap around his throat. the other hand twists, until he can grasp loki’s wrist and pin his arm to his side. “it would be easier if you stopped doing this.”
