According to twitter rumours, Tory back benchers will try to remove Liz Truss in “weeks” if the economy “doesn’t improve”.
The economy isn’t going to improve. Everyone knew the Truss/Kwarteng strategy was shit. And whilst ordinary people don’t always feel it when the economy does well, trust me, you will be made to feel it during a recession, or if things are just going badly.
In “weeks”, people will have lost their houses. People will have had to chose which of their bills to pay. People will have got in debt. Ordinary people, living pay check to pay check can’t afford to wait and see what happens.
This is just the Tories clinging to power for as long as they want. They know they can’t afford another leadership change soon (probably realistically this side of the next general election). So they will let Truss fuck about for as long as they possibly can. I doubt enough of them have spines to join a Labour vote of no confidence, even if Starmer had the spine to call one.
This is what “democracy” looks like- an idiot is allowed to destroy your life because they believe in a fucked up ideology and a stupid economic strategy. And you just have to suck it up for two years, at least, potentially.
If only there were alternatives, right?
