— one day at a time
unexpected hospital visits with @kwsuji !
it’s been quite some time since he’d last injured himself on the ice. it’s not uncommon for ice skaters to suffer injuries, of course — it often ends up being one of the main reasons that professional ice skaters end up having to retire, after all. but this is the first time, in many, many years that he’s actually suffered a severe enough injury off the ice to warrant an actual hospital visit and a cast around his wrist for six to eight weeks. he’d fractured and broken things before when he was younger, but for the most part, injuries had been relatively few — perhaps that had been the benefit of being younger at the time.
there’s a reason that ice skaters retire when they get older. the stress that skating puts on a skater’s body is harder and harder to bear as time passes, and even though jinwoo has only been skating recreationally, it’s still evident that it’s probably also approaching the time for him to lay off the jumps, even though he had wanted to perfect them just so he could.
it’s with a sheepish expression that he comes out to meet his girlfriend, left wrist bound in a cast and mind already trying to work through what he can and can’t do for the next two months. “six to eight weeks,” he tells her with an air of resignation. “i’m going to have to go in after six weeks so they can evaluate whether it still needs two weeks or if i’m okay.”
