Cafe
It was after midnight. Cold air rushed through the desolate streets. The street lamps offered some mild comfort in the dim, black night. The wind crashed against your skin, burning your cheeks and sending your gently curled hair into frenzy around you. You were waiting for Sanghyun, his busy schedule only allowed you to meet after late night rehearsals and filming. Through your fogged breath you noticed someone across the street, running frantically towards you.
“Have you been waiting long?” Sanghyun asked, full of worry. He reached out, holding your red stained cheeks with his bare hands. Despite how cold it was, his hands were noticeably warm. He pulled in closer to your face, his eyes fixed on you. You felt your blood rush to your face, your skin felt hot against his palms.
“N- No! I just got here!” you stuttered, pulling out of his grasp. He was such a gentle person, always putting you above himself. He had rushed to meet you as quickly as possible; he didn’t even realize he had forgotten to dress properly for the weather. You saw his trembling hands, his scarlet cheeks and increasingly pale neck that was unshielded against the sharp winds.
The only thing he had on his mind was you, whether you were suffering in the cold extremities. You smiled at him, grateful for having such a warm, caring boyfriend. You slid off one of your gloves and handed it to him.
“You need to take care of yourself better Sanghyun. Too many people depend on you, you can’t catch a cold” you said as you pulled the glove over his pale, numb hand. You held onto his other hand as you slid it into your pocket. You smiled, looking up at his flushed complexion.
He swallowed, darting his eyes in various directions until he set them on the pavement where you stood. He brought his shoulders up, taking deep breathes. The air around him clouded with his warm breath. His eye lashes fluttered, he tried to look up but his timid character halted him.
You felt him squeeze your hand in your pocket, then link his fingers together with yours. “Don’t you know how important you are? I only see you. If anything were to happen to you…” he finally looked into your eyes. His gaze made you lose your breath. His eyes were glossed with a gentle formation of tears, his lips slightly parted.
He leaned slightly forward, and dropped his forehead onto your shoulder. He enveloped his free arm around your waist, bringing you closer into him. Neither of you said a word, nothing had to be said. The cold winter air seemed to disappear in your intimate embrace.
After a few moments Sanghyun lifted his head and gently kissed your cheek. His chapped lips were slightly rough against your skin, but it gave you immense comfort. You felt him smile against your cheek as he pulled away. He loosened his grip around you, still holding your hand within your pocket.
“Come on, let’s go get something warm” he said smiling. You grinned as you followed his lead down the street, leaning your head against him as you walked towards the coffee shop together.
