MLB Trade Rumors: Rivals Texas Rangers, Los Angeles Angels Looking To Add Free Agent Kyle Lohse
Free agent and former Milwaukee Brewer Kyle Lohse could find himself in Rangers or Angels uniform this season.
Joining in the teams that want services of Kyle Lohse are the rivals Los Angeles Angels, according to a tweet posted by John Heyman. The Angels are reported to have plans of adding veteran right-hander Kyle Lohse in their lineup after UCL injuries of Garret Richards and Andrew Heaney depleted the team’s choice of pitchers.
The addition of Lohse to Rangers, on the other hand, is seen as insurance if right-hander A.J. Griffin’s injury concern in his throwing shoulder is confirmed. The Texas Rangers will not have injury concerns with magnitude as high as Los Angeles Angels but among the 4 remaining Texas starters Cole Hamels, Martin Perez, Derrick Holland and Colby Lewis, only Hamels is reliable when it comes to carrying the team in the absence of A.J. Griffin. Japanese pitcher Yu Darvish’s comeback is also seen to improve the woes of Rangers.
However, before deciding to add Lohse, there are issues about him the Texas Rangers need to address first. At 37, Kyle Lohse is considered past his prime. He had his best season at St. Louis Cardinals 6 years ago but his career ERA of 4.33 brings depth to rosters badly needing to shore up depleted lineups. According to SB Nation, the Texas Rangers’ depth compared to Los Angeles Angels could be a telling factor where Kyle Lohse would play next.
In other MLB trade rumors, Los Angeles Angels pitcher Joe Smith is set to be released in July. The Angels are looking to beef up their lineup plagued by injuries but is reportedly letting go of Smith who pitched 3.60 ERA this season, a valuable stat any contender team would make a use of.
MLB teams have different options to improve rosters: trade players, add serviceable players that the team needs through free agent market or develop own farm system. If the team has win-now attitude like the Los Angeles Angels, they could use the free agents to give its lineup immediate boost.
