The south bubble, and its famous boulder perched at its edge, is possibly one of the most recognized spots in Acadia National Park. The rock, roughly the size of a 15 passenger van, looks like it should slide of the slanted cliff and crash to the road before. Friction, however, has kept the boulder from budging for 100′s of years.
This also means that I never made it up to the summit last year because there were always crowds of tourists. This year, I took advantage of a sunny day early in May during the first week of the season, while the park is still quiet, and was able to shoot the bubble.
This is an easy hike, 1.6 miles from the parkinging lot if you are lucky enough to find a spot.
