Kyler Thatch: Phantom Ensemble wouldn't be so bad if the trumpety parts weren't so deafening. The only worse offender that comes to mind is Necro-Fantasy. ...at least I think they're trumpets. I could be wrong.
Kyler Thatch: Don't get me wrong, I actually like Phantom Ensemble. Especially the piano-y part. It's just the excessively loud trumpety part that gets on my nerves.
Still Waters: PCB was the height of the ZUNpets era, and he's since toned them down. Liking them or not is the biggest musical split of the fandom, really. I miss them.
Kyler Thatch: What in the world is the ZUNpets era, and why is it called that?
Still Waters: The loud, strident, obviously electronic trumpet samples that are everywhere in Phantom Ensemble, Border of Life and Necrofantasy. From, you know, "ZUN" and "trumpets".
Kyler Thatch: Wonderful. I now have a name for the reason I skip over the latter two when I'm playing my Touhou soundtrack collection.
XionGaTaosenai: And I now have a word for why I love the PCB soundtrack the most!
