3, 8, 18, 19 for Kylie?

3. How did you choose their name? I needed a name to get out of the character generator and start the game. I dug deep into the pile of Old OC Names and found her somewhere in the middle. Interestingly, I think a lot of her personality was informed by her name.

8. What (if anything) do you relate to within their character/story? Liking strawberries, and feeling like a fraud and/or failure at every attempt at leadership. Also, shoes are stupid.

18. What is the most recent thing you’ve discovered about your OC? That she is not, in fact, a necromancer. I was trying to do...something in fic and make the whole “make the necromancer specialization I chose in-game make sense” and failed spectacularly. She was much happier with me when I tossed the whole necromancer thing out the window and just stuck with storms and shapeshifting.

19. What is your favorite fact about your OC? I don’t know, man, she can conjure a hurricane. That’s pretty baller.

8, 10, and 13 for Kylie and Krem!

8. How did they try to impress one other before they were dating?

Kylie turned into a bear to save Krem’s life (which was not specifically to impress him, but keep him alive, but it was impressive nonetheless). Krem was clueless about his feelings for her (and hers for him) up until that point, and it was like a month? maybe? between that fight in Rivain and them getting together.

10. Where did they confess that they loved one another?

Somewhere in the Free Marches. Starkhaven, maybe. They’re there on a Chargers gig, and they’re in the tavern afterward with the rest of the crew and Iron Bull regaling everyone who was outside the keep with the tale of how things went down inside the keep (which Krem well knows is very much not how things went down; you got thwacked in the head by a frying pan, Chief). It’s not a big confessional deal - Kylie’s at the bar ordering another round of drinks, Krem comes to help her carry it all back to their table, and she just kind of looks at him with this soft smile on her face and says “I love you.”

He nearly drops the glasses he’s carrying, but manages not to and instead kisses her and tells her he loves her in return. 

And then they go back to the group, Krem tells everyone that Chief got hit in the head with a frying pan, Bull fires him for the sixth time that week and immediately rehires him for the sixth time that week when Krem hands him a beer.

13. What is a memory they share together that makes them both laugh so hard they cry when they think about it?

Already answered (”I’m in labor” “No you’re not”). But also: that time at the Winter Palace with the very poorly-disguised dragon skull and Kylie’s total inability to keep a straight face when trying to distract Bull.

11. Did you know what the OC’s sexuality would be at the time of their creation? 

She was created specifically so I could write a Krem romance. The fact that she’ll sleep with anything that’s both alive and can consent, regardless of gender or species, came a bit (though not much) later.

14. If you had to narrow it down to 2 things that you MUST keep in mind while working with your OC, what would those things be? 

Bubblegum and lemonade. Even in the middle of the worst shit, she is still that joyful feeling of being outside on a bright summer day with your friends, trying to eat a popsicle before it can melt all over your fingers.

15. What is something about your OC can make you laugh? 

Many things, but that time she and Dalish tried to magic a Wicked Grace deck and ended up nearly setting a barn on fire is a prominent moment.

1. What was the first element of your OC that you remember creating?

I wanted a Krem romance. 

4. In developing their backstory, what elements of the world they live in played the most influential parts? 

Iron Bull. 110%. She joined up with the Chargers when she was *mumbles*teen, and was largely feral at that point; most of her actual How To Interact With People and How I See The World personality was formed by Bull. 

The Chargers themselves also were important, as a collective: she’d been abandoned by her clan, and was surviving on her own, but along come these misfit assholes who immediately adopt her. And they never abandoned her, ever. It takes her a long, long time to fully internalize that fact.

14. If you had to narrow it down to 2 things that you MUST keep in mind while working with your OC, what would those things be? 

Bubblegum and sunshine.

19. What is your favorite fact about your OC?

The spiral in her ear is the one that’s visible, but all of her piercings are enchanted with runes.

Random OC question: Are they good with people?

Olivia Shepard - fairly, though she’s got a pretty short temper when people aren’t listening to her about something important. She’s uncomfortable with small talk, but otherwise good at talking to and working with people (especially kids; she’s fantastic with kids).

Vanessa Shepard - not in the least. She’s very cold and standoffish unless she likes you, and she likes very few people. She prefers hacking or punching her way through things, always has.

Kylie Lavellan - fantastic. She spent several years grifting and conning her way through the Free Marches before Bull picked her up and brought her into the Chargers, at which point her education into people-reading and manipulation absolutely skyrocketed. She mostly hates people who aren’t her people, but she knows how to work them.

Ariadne Trevelyan - halfway decent. She’s not very good at it as a child (being a Chantry orphan suddenly yanked into the Circle will do that to you), but she opens up with friends. With some coaching from her First Enchanter (and later Vivienne), she starts learning the Game and how to fake it. Especially once she’s pulled into the Inquisition, she’s very much my Fake It Until You Make It OC.

5 & 13 for Kylie and Krem?

5. Where is their number one date spot? Why do they love it so much there?

They’re mostly nomadic for the first half of their relationship, so “date spot” isn’t so much a specific location as a specific set of circumstances. They like to get away from the rest of the Chargers; their friends mean well, but sometimes you just wanna hold hands without having an entire group of assholes waggle their eyebrows at you about it, you know? Really anywhere that they can be alone, separate from the other people that they’re spending 24 hours a day with.

13. What is a memory they share together that makes them both laugh so hard they cry when they think about it?

Kylie woke up Krem in the middle of the night to tell him she was in labor, to which he responded “No you’re not” in a mumble, rolled over and went back to sleep.

(In his defense, the elf/human baby conceived via blood magic was really unpredictable with regard to standard maternity expectations, and Micah was like 4 weeks early)

30: What does your character find repulsive or disgusting? Orlesians.

31: Describe a scenario in which your character feels most comfortable. With the Chargers, at any point. They’re her people. 

32: Describe a scenario in which your character feels most uncomfortable. Like, the entirety of Inquisition. Kylie is not a leader, she’s uncomfortable being in the spotlight, and she’s really uncomfortable with heavy responsibility.

33: In the face of criticism, is your character defensive, self-deprecating, or willing to improve? Depends who’s doing the criticizing. If it’s Bull, she’s willing to improve. If it’s any of the other Chargers (or the friends she develops in the Inquisition, like Dorian, Varric, and Cassandra), it’s self-deprecating. If it’s literally anyone else, she gets defensive, occasionally aggressively so.

34: Is your character more likely to keep trying a solution/method that didn’t work the first time, or immediately move on to a different solution/method? She’ll eventually move on to a different solution, but she’s a pretty stubborn person and sometimes it takes her a while to see that there even are other options. (Josephine helps a lot with this, actually, and post-Inquisition she’s more flexible in her approach when stuff doesn’t work)
