As you adjusted your footing beneath you, you had to force yourself to keep your breath steady. Your heart pounded in the middle of your chest and your eyes were focused on the lifeless Zabrak just across from you. The abandoned Vodranian space port was rather musty, but it was expected for a site abandoned years ago by the Hutts. His black markings were quite detailed against his red skin, the most complex you had ever seen from his species. His yellow eyes were dead, fixated on a hole on the ceiling above that revealed just a hint of rain from the outside. “Keep your guard up for him,” you commanded the small squadron of troops Under your authority. “shoot down anyone you see, and make sure the medical evac is ready If we need it.”
“Yes, Commander,” one of the five troopers responded to your orders as they fanned out. You couldn’t comprehend what had happened, it all went by so quickly. A mission to recover crucial First Order Files from the Hutt stronghold had gone south the moment your force connection with him had been severed. It sent you into a state of panic, his force energy had never been so faint. You could still feel it, but there was no way you could track him, even with how hard you tried. He was nowhere to be found with the use of the force.
You had even tried to reach out to him but he didn’t respond to you, and it worried you even more. Each time you would call out to him through the force, no matter the occasion, he would answer. But this time it was different, the silence sending chills down your spine. The absence of a reply scared you, making you assume the worst. There were ravage animals left behind by the hutts, from Rancor to Nexu, roaming around the aged complex. You kept your coms open incase one of your troops found Kylo, dead or alive.
The pit in your stomach was almost overwhelming as so many thoughts and worries raced through your mind. Your only spec of hope was the small pull in the force around you, hinting that he was really alive. Maybe just barely. Every so often it would spark more, but it was never enough to draw you to him.
You froze in your path as you heard a faint growl, noting a pair of four crimson red eyes piercing at you through the shadows. The grip around your saber tightened as you watched the owner of the eyes emerge from the darkness before you. A Nexu. Its teeth were sharp and exposed, saliva dripping from its mouth. You kept your body still the best you could, knowing how sensitive the species’ eyesight could be. It kept its eyes on you as it circled around, observing your body heat.
Just as you were about to make a move to strike the beast, it launched at you with its claws out, pushing you back. As the flooring had been loose, it collapsed beneath you, sending you and the Nexu crashing below with such force. You had dropped your saber on the fall, leaning you defenseless as it tried to bite at you. Just barely, you were able to get your hands free to snap its neck with the force. Breathing a bit heavily, you propped yourself up with your elbow, feeling a sharp pain in your shoulder. It had been able to scorch at your flesh, leaving an almost nasty cut.
You could barely see anything, making you feel around for your saber. As you were able to find it, you stood up and ignited the crimson blade to give you a new source of light. You looked down the corridor with an eyebrow raised - you hadn’t thought that there would be tunnels underneath the stronghold. Your attention was caught as you could feel the force energy strengthen, eyes going wide a hint. There was no doubt in your mind that he was down there somewhere. You took out your com to speak “I found a hidden corridor beneath the stronghold, he’s down here, I can feel it. Find a way down and meet back up with me,” you spoke to your squadron.
“We’ll follow your location, Commander,” one spoke just before you shut off the com. You licked your chapping lips as you carefully navigated through the long halls, keeping your guard up for any other fauna that may be roaming around the complex. The connection you had with Kylo was slowly flickering, the spark was there but it did not seem to let itself fully ignite.
“Kylo!” you called out to him in hopes of getting some response from him. The atmosphere around you remained quite, but you were sure that he was there. Alive. You followed the pull of the force the best you could, looking every which way in hopes of seeing him or any sign of where he was. “please! Just answer me!” you called again until you froze, feeling something press against the small of your back.
“Move and you’ll regret it,” as raspy voice told you. Your Saber fell to your side as you brought your hand down. “If you don’t want your precious Supreme Leader to get a blaster shot in the head, you’ll do as I say and give me your weapon,” the man spoke to you. You were able to get a small glance at him, noting how he was a trandoshan, a species you had not encountered much. “don’t think by killing me he won’t get hurt, I have friends that can drop him in an instant if I’m dead, and they’ll find out quickly.”
“Fine,” You let out a bitter sigh as you let your saber blade retract back into the handle, handing it back to the lizard-like creature. He grabbed you by the arm and started to drag you along with him, blaster held tightly against your spine. You couldn’t call back to your troopers, he would catch wind of it, so you were left to hope that they came to you in time. “what is the purpose of this?” you demanded to know.
He let out a laugh of amusement. “We were tipped off that the First Order’s highest Commander and even Supreme Leader were coming to this planet for some of their plans, and we couldn’t turn down the opportunity to snag the both of you,” he began to explain. “You have some high prices on your heads, but we don’t want to kill you just yet, the bounty is much higher for you alive. But if you do anything, we won’t be afraid to kill. Reward is still high, seeing as how you’re both on the blacklist.”
“Do you really think you’ll be able to get away with this?” you demanded to know. With boiling blood in your veins, you wanted to lash out at him, and you could do it. But you couldn’t afford to risk it, not when they were threatening to end Kylo in an instant. “you won’t even be able to get us off planet, not when we’ve got people that can track us,” you told him.
“Don’t worry, we’ve got our ways of getting passed them,” he admitted as he pushed you forward. You fell to the ground, stopping yourself with your hands. He kept his blaster pistol pointed at you as he lifted you up by your outer tunic. “See? And we haven’t killed Ren just yet,” he mentioned as he adjusted you to look at Kylo. Your eyes went wide at the sight; he was restrained to a chair, bloodied and bruised.
“What did you do to him?” You demanded to know in a bark, trying to run for Kylo but the Trandoshan kept his grip on your tunic. You fell back to your knees as you stared across as an unconscious Kylo. It didn’t make sense how he could be taken down by such a puny creature - your only excuse was knowing the risk fighting back would be placed onto Kylo.
“My partner managed to sedate him before he could even fight back, looks like his connection to the force failed him for once,” he said as you could feel his chilling, scaly hand touch the side of your neck. “I’m quite surprised that we could capture the both of you, I thought we’d only be getting out of here with him. We’ll certainly have enough money to last us a life time, we’ll be able to retire as Bounty Hunters!”
“Go screw yourself,” you breathed out to the creature. He laughed and hit you on the back of the head with his blaster. He dragged you along to the back of the room - a cell - to throw you harshly onto the stone floor.
“Gladly,” he joked as he slowly backed away. “now stay like a good dog and don’t do anything, or else I’ll have both of your heads on the end of a pole,” he warned as he slammed the door, locking it without a second thought. You sat for a moment before you ran to Kylo, finally able to feel the connection with him once more. You knelt down in front of him and reached up to feel his pulse, it was faint, but it was there. It started to explain why your connection with him was crumbling, he was on the brink of death.
Feeling tears forming in the corners of your eyes, you scanned over his entire body. He had cuts and bruises all over. Your hand trailed up to his cheek to lift his head up, seeing just how out of it he appeared to be. You shook him lightly as you whispered to him “Kylo, please wake up,” you begged him softly. He failed to respond, sending the pit in your stomach to fall even deeper. “please, dammit!” you screamed out as you pulled your hand away. Your hand reached for the hem of his tunic to lift it up, assessing the damage further. You pulled up the under shirt as well to reveal a blaster shot to his right abdomen, and it was bleeding rather quickly.
Feeling your first tighten at your side, you could feel your rage heightening. Just seeing him like this, all helpless and close to death, it angered you so. You found yourself approaching the metal door and sensing an energy on the opposite side, the same lizard that put you in there with Kylo in the first place. With your eyebrows furrowed together, you held your hand out to smash the door down with such force, letting the darkness slowly consume you to fuel your power. The trandoshan fell backwards in startle as the door crashed to the ground, revealing you in your fit in anger.
“You’re going to pay!” You barked out as you lunged at him, grabbing him by his wrist and pulling him close to you. “you hurt him, and now you will suffer a far worst fate,” you smirked at him, an unusually sadistic vibe to it. You gripped down harder into his wrist as you heard his bones crush in his arm, getting a cry of pain from him. You found a bit of satisfaction from his pain, knowing he deserved it. You pushed him back with the force and brought him to his knees, restricting every muscle in his body. You reached out for his pistol, holding it tightly in your hands.
“Don’t hurt me, I beg you!”
“After what you’ve done to him?” You let out an amused laugh, staring deeply into his purple eyes. “I’m going to make you suffer,” you spoke as you let a shot pierce into his thigh. He fell forward just as you let go of the grip that held him in place. You shot another blaster bold into his shoulder. “anyone who dares to hurt him gets it from me, and they never see the light of day again,” you walked up to him and grabbed him by the jaw, pulling him up into his knees.
“I’ll give you what you want, just let me go! Please!”
“You get no mercy from me,” you spat out and tightened your hold on him, fingers slowly digging into his flesh. You reached out your hand and your saber flew into your palm. Without a moment a hesitation, you held it close to his torso to let the blade slice into his body. His eyes went wide as you dropped him, watching his body fall down the blade to slice in half. It exited from his shoulder as his body fell limp, as lifeless as it could be. You felt a few newfound presences behind you, looking over your shoulder to see your troops.
“Commander, we have the medical evac ready.”
Your attention turned back to Kylo as his words snapped you out of your moment of pure aggression. You let out a sudden breath before racing back to Kylo with your squadron, watching as the medical trooper undid his restraints and put him on the metal levitating gurney. “Get him back to the shuttle now and alert the Medical ship that we’re coming!” They nodded as one noticed the blood on your shoulder.
“Commander, you need medical assistance too. Don’t strain yourself on the way to the ship,” he stated.
The pain had not become so predominate as it has now, before you had been so fixated on the idea of finding and saving Kylo. “I’ll be fine,” you tried to tell him while he came closer to you. “It’s nothing-“ you breathed out as you could see your vision getting blurry. “don’t worry about me…” you let out just as your legs began to give out under you.
“Commander!” You heard the trooper yell out as your vision darkened.

You jolted awake in a panic, propping yourself up with your hands as a sweat dripped from your face. You looked around to see that you had been in the med bay, shoulder wrapped in a an extensive bracta patch and bandages. A medical droid notices you waking from your slumber. “Commander (L/N), please don’t move too much, you don’t want to open your wound back up,” it told you in a monotone voice. “we stitched it and put on a bacta solution, but it won’t hold if you move in the wrong manner.”
“Um… Yeah, I’m sorry,” you breathed as you remembered what had happened. “Kylo!” You screamed out in realization. “what happened to him! Is he okay? Is he still alive?” You demanded to know. You wanted to just jump up and run to search for him, but the droid pushed you back into your bed gently. “please tell me he’s not dead!”
“Don’t worry, he’s safe,” the medical droid informed you. “after we stabilize him, we had to submerge him in a bacta tank for further healing. He’s going to live, we made sure it,” You sighed with relief as you listened to its word, letting your muscles relax as tears escaped from your eyes once more. This time, they were not of panic but rather of joy, knowing that you hadn’t lost the man.
“Can I see him?”
“Yes, but you have to note that he is still unconscious so his time in the tank is not uncomfortable,” it stated as it called for a nurse to come and assist you. She grabbed you by the arm and helped you stand, making sure you wouldn’t fall over. As she brought you to the tanks, you realized that with all your racing emotions before, your body hadn’t registered how much blood it had lost until they all subsided after it was all over. She keyed in the passcode for the private tank room to reveal Kylo floating in the gel like substance.
She set you down on a chair and left you in the room alone, making sure to stay by Incase anything happened. You placed your hand on the warm tank as your eyes trailed up to watch Kylo in the bacta. His hair floated around his softened features. They had cleaned him up but the bruises were still there, surely healing from the bacta. You smiled faintly at the idea that he was alright, you could feel his energy strengthening. “I’m sorry…” you spoke out as if he could hear you. “I love you so much.”
