Yeah I'm pretty sure that only comes from having to write a thesis where if you fail you miiight become illegal in the country you currently reside in because you become ineligible for the visa you already applied for, and if you need to take a third year for school, which is a different visa, the first available visa appointment is already after your current visa expires thus making you unemployable and broke, not to mention unable to prove income and thus can't get your visa renewed.
Desperate times. Desperate measures.
