Here’s my design for a Dino Charge movie suit. Again, trying to be as consistent as possible to the movie. One of the most Iconic elements of the Mighty Morphin suits where the graphic diamonds on their chest. With Dino Charge, it’s the slanted design of the torso, the single shoulder armor, and the different colored, textured arms. Which is why I’ve only concentrated on the top half of this model.
Before I even started sculpting this, I had an image in my head of what the arms should look like in a more realistic context. I wanted something similar to Thor’s arms, possibly layered scales for flexibility, even played with the idea of having complete metal arms like X-men’s Colossus. I did a quick paint-over on a promo pic but in the end, there was just too much going on. The movie suits have four different materials, three with their own unique texture and adding a fifth material to separate the arms was too much. So I went with something more in line with the movie but gave the bicep armor a familiar shape.
Now the “Morpher” area… remember, this time around it’s not a Morpher that sits there. In the show, it’s called a Dino Com, part smartphone, part storage for the Dino Chargers. I needed something that wasn’t advanced human technology but rather something that looked like it could have formed from the energy of the Energem. I took the same aesthetic the Dino Com has, resembling a dinosaur head, but stripped the gimmicks away leaving a skull looking design that’s vaguely shaped like the Dino Com. In addition, Just like the crystal looking Power Coins from the movie, I wanted this “crystal” (Energem) to be stored there and also have it’s color exposed, resulting in what you see in the render. Lastly, the chest. I know you’re thinking this was my chance make the Dinosaur head subliminally placed there more obvious than in the show, with the shoulder armor being the eye, but honestly, that’s a very graphic design that only works in the show. Most of the suits designs from the show are very graphic and would actually translate pretty well in 2D animation. By the way, if it isn’t obvious, yes, the triangle on the chest will be the opening “window” to the morphing grid like the diamond in the movie suits. If you made it this far, I appreciate you checking out my thought process behind the design. I’m interested in what you think about it. Also, check out my previous to see the helmet compeltly textured and rendered. Thanks for looking!
