Born in South Korea, Kyoung Ae Cho received her BFA from Duksong Women’s University in Seoul, South Korea in 1986, and her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan in 1991. She is currently a professor at the Peck School of the Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Kyoung Ae Cho’s innovative fiber work is highly influenced by nature and her relationship with the natural world. Concerned about today’s environment issues, she incorporates recycled material with low-valued materials to create pieces that she views as a collaboration between artist and material.
Kyoung Ae Cho’s work has been shown internationally in cultural institutions such as the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City, Missouri; John Michael Kohler Arts Center, Sheboygan, Wisconsin; Nederlands Textielmuseum, Tilburg, Netherlands; Daegu Cultural and Arts Center, South Korea; and Detroit Institute of Arts in Michigan. She has won numerous awards including the 1995 Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant.
