     His head of orange hair was way too distinguishable among a crowd, and Arisa was absolutely positive that it belonged to no one else but him.  It was strange, because Arisa hadn’t received any warning of familiar faces passing by the area - was this coincidental then?  From where she was, she could see that he was alone.  That was odd, she decided, although she wouldn’t know.  Her emotions keep her body still though she aches to move, watching fearfully as his figure gets farther and farther away.  

     She finally gained momentum when someone accidentally bumped into her, and from her stumble, she began to walk.  Her speed increased with each step and was almost at a jogging pace, weaving through the crowd as her eyes focused on that stupid hair.  Passing through wasn’t easy because of her height, but she managed. 

     Without thinking, her hand grabbed onto his shoulder almost violently, as if transferring the weight of her emotions, and she jerked his body to face her.  Her expression failed to accurately depict what was going on inside her mind, as she bore a stern look with a tense smirk.  The grasp on his shoulder tightened as she spoke.

     ❝ You better be taking care of her, damn it.  How can you get a job with that stupid hair color - haven’t I been telling you all along to dye it?❞

// Biggest differences, huh? I guess you mean besides Pazu obviously being a boy and me being a girl, right? Haha

I guess the biggest difference that I can think of offhand is that Pazu is a very hopeful, optimistic person. He doesn’t dwell on negativity and seems pretty averse to it like when he tells Uncle Pom to “lighten up” when he’s warning Sheeta about how using her crystal’s power for selfish means would have grim consequences. Pazu sees the world with naive eyes, but it’s a beautiful outlook that I wish I could have again.

I’ve realized that as I’ve gotten older, my dreams haven’t gotten any smaller but my hopes of actually achieving those dreams have. I’ve become a lot more fatalistic in my thinking and more anxious and concerned with the terrible things that I lose focus on what used to make me happy. The wide-eyed wonder that I remember having as a kid--like what I see in Pazu--has dissolved into a mentality that’s definitely more pessimistic and fearful for and of the world I live in. Child-me believed that I could do anything. I saw the world as one huge adventure and I was ready to take it all on. Adult-me... well, sometimes I wonder if anything I do actually matters and it’s amazing if I can have a week of peace without freaking out internally over some horrible thing I saw on the news.

Pazu lives with such energy and readiness for the world. Maybe it’s just because he’s still young and maybe everyone has a point in their lives where they lose that energy, but I admire it so much. I’m so envious of it. It isn’t that I don’t still see beauty in the world, I simply find it harder to do because there’s always like a huge fog of fears clouding it from me.
