Someday in the future, Denki would look at this day and laugh. Hell, he would even look back at it as one of the best days of his life. But for a brief moment, it felt like one of the worst things that had ever happened to him.
It was time for the cultural festival during their third year at UA, and somehow the girls had convinced the boys to do a host club. Several of the boys were hosts, a few of them were waiters, and some helped in the kitchen. The girls got to take care of all of the food and the decorations. All-in-all it was going really well.
They had even set up a kissing booth, where anyone could get a kiss on the cheek from whichever host was in it. Denki was working it at the time, sometimes kissing some of the other students on the cheek when they came up and paid for a ticket. But then, he heard a commotion on the other side of the room.
Katsuki was glaring intently at Eijirou, who was smirking at the blond while they argued. Denki couldn’t really hear them from over here, but he heard his name, and immediately he blushed. He never liked it when people talked about him, but it was worse when Katsuki was involved.
Denki had been crushing on him hard since their first year, and not knowing what they were talking about was stressing out the blond. But then Katsuki whipped around, and their gazes locked onto one another.
He looked angry but determined. Katsuki’s crimson eyes flicked across the other blond’s face like he was searching for something. All the attention made Denki blush, and then Katsuki smirked as he started to march his way over to him.
He stopped in front of the booth and let his eyes rake up and down the other boy. When Katsuki's gaze got back up to meet Denki’s, he leaned over the booth and grabbed onto Denki’s chin.
“How’s it going, sparky?” Katsuki asked.
“Uhm, fine. What are you doing, dude?”
“What does it look like I’m doing? I’m over here to kiss you, dumbass!”
At first, Denki was genuinely confused. Never in a million years did he think the guy he liked would want to kiss him. But then he remembered where he was and the argument that occurred on the other side of the room. People might joke that Denki is dumb, but he had always been good about reading people. This all pointed to some kind of dare, and he wanted no part of it.
“Why are you going to kiss me?” Denki asked while suspicion laced his tone.
“Shitty hair said I couldn’t do it. No way in hell am I going to let him be right.”
“So it’s some dumb dare? I don’t want our first kiss to be for something like this.”
Katsuki froze at the wording for a moment, “First kiss? What the hell is that supposed to mean?”
Denki tried to act chill. He even tried to chuckle, but it was so blatantly fake he cringed. “Uhm, Nothing? Forget it. I’m just saying weird stuff.”
“You want more than one kiss? Why? I’m an asshole.”
“Yeah, you’re an asshole, but I’ve never minded it.”
Katsuki's eyes narrowed while the grip on Denki's chin got tighter. “Hold on a minute, what the fuck is happening?”
“God, you’re a moron sometimes. Don’t worry about it.” Denki tried to shake himself loose but failed.
“No, we’re going to talk about this. Do you like me or something?”
At this point, Denki was annoyed. He hated that it had come out like this. He never even planned on telling Katsuki about it. The other boy was so focused on graduating and becoming a hero that Denki never considered Katsuki would have been interested in a relationship.
Eventually, he got fed up with Denki’s silence. “I swear to god, you tell me right now if you like me. I want to fucking kiss you, and I want to kiss you again after that too. Fuck, I even want to take you on a stupid date. So you better tell me right now what you want me to do.”
With every passing sentence, Denki’s eyes widened. At the beginning of this whole scene, he thought that the first and only kiss he would ever have with his crush would just be some dare. It had even started to break his heart. But now, he was being confessed to? He didn’t even know what to say.
As Denki's silence grew, Katsuki got more and more nervous. He started to back away when the other boy didn’t say anything, as anxiety clawed at him. Katsuki tried to scowl, but it melted from his face and turned to surprise when the other blond moved forward to kiss him.
Denki slammed his lips into Katsuki's. It was the most ungraceful kiss in history, but it was perfect. Teeth smashed into each other, and it was hurried and desperate. But the kiss was so full of longing it almost Denki's eyes watered.
They pulled away, both laughing at each other. Denki’s smile was blinding, and Katsuki’s own grin was elated and full of pride.
The explosive boy whisked him away, and the last thing they heard before they left the room was Eijirou laughing as he shouted, “Finally!”
