Fanart of Dannyl and Tayend from Black Magician Trilogy and Traitor Spy Trilogy by Trudi Canavan.
My favourite book series has been the Magician Guild / the Black Magicians trilogy by Trudi Canavan for a while now (ever since I first read it). And after frantic fanart and fanfic search when I first ended the third book, I almost gave up, I thought the fandom was very dead... but now I found that there are actually more people loving it on here because I searched the hashtag on a whim. I'm nearly crying. This is one of the best surprises of my life. It still doesn't bring that alternative ending fic that I long for, I'm gonna have to write it myself, but still, even if the fandom is very much almost dead, I am so so so so happy to no longer feel alone with my love for this fandom and the author. *happy tears*
The Black Magician Trilogy
What are the books about?
As Wikipedia says: “ The Black Magician trilogy is a fantasy novel series written by Australian author Trudi Canavan. The books follow a slum-dwelling girl named Sonea who, although born and raised in the slums of Imardin, discovers that she has natural magical abilities usually restricted to the upper classes. They describe her attempts to escape capture by the Magicians' Guild and gain control of her powers, her struggle to fit in and learn magic, and ultimately her attempts to save Kyralia using the one type of magic forbidden from use. In the early parts, she is frightened and distrustful of the powerful magician Akkarin, eventually coming to trust him, and the two of them fall deeply in love - with Akkarin finally dying in battle with the evil Ichani, the grieving Sonea left to bear his child and carry on his magical work. “
What did I think of the Books?
Personally, I think that the first Book dragged on way longer than I’d liked. The second one I liked way more, because I found out more about Sonea herself and the Magician’s Guild. Dannyl’s sidestory was interesting at first, but as the Book continued, the sidestory was often pushed in in parts of Sonea’s story when it got interesting... The third book was my favorite, by far. Even though I would’ve liked to see Sonea’s and Darriel’s love story unfold, I was completely enthralled by Sonea and Akkarin’s love (and, of course, devastated when it ended).
Would I read the Prequels/Sequels?
No. Usually, I’m a big fan of Sequels, but in the Black Magician Trilogy I knew I didn’t want to continue reading about adult Sonea and her son, because of my crush on Akkarin. It ended on a nice note and I just don’t feel like reading on.
What is my overall rating out of ten?
A solid 8.5.
I liked everything, even though the story had a long start but I had to give deductions for the fact that a) Sonea and Akkarins love story developed in the last half of the third Book and b) there were a lot of specific names that I had to use the Glossary, which interrupted my reading flow.
I just realized I’d really appreciate a scene (in the post Akkarin-gets-to-know-Rothen-knows but before Sonea is into helping him in any way phase) in which for some unknown to me reason all three of them plus Cery meet in one room. So Sonea and Rothen stay literally on the other end of the room than Akkarin and look at him like he killed a man (XDDD) and try to be pain in his ass while Cery is there grateful to his core and tries to make them in peace like, guys, but Akkarin is a cool dude, stop antagonising him
SOO IS THERE A FANDOM FOR TRUDI CANAVAN'S KYRALIA SERIES BECAUSE I AM READY TO JUMP HEAD FIRST IN TO IT
