Cooking had been out of the question. Amber didn't want to poison Kyung for his birthday, nor put him out of house and home (as large apartment fires usually did to the residents), so no big birthday dinner. Besides, in that was an arena he truly an expert; no need to prove how absolutely awful her cooking is in comparison. It is worth noting that this decision was made after she quickly debated herself over if microwave ramen counted as cooking (yes) and if it'd be an appropriate birthday dinner (no).
Instead of trying that whole "quiet night in" the two had grown accustomed to, Amber'd proposed they'd go out for his birthday. He more than likely wouldn't have minded preparing his own birthday feast, but that wouldn't rest well on Amber's conscious. Besides, she'd been aiming to be a little more positive and bright lately, and if that meant spending hours in a crowd of strangers, this is what people did. Hopefully spending the time with Kyung would make it better. She usually was happy around him.
Oddly enough, sitting next to him on the Ferris Wheel felt an awful lot like their study dates, only now, instead of quietly wondering when things would end up sexual between the two of them, Amber was keeping an eye on the other couples at the street fair. Taking cues from the people around them. She hadn't been secretive about her lack of relationship knowledge, but she felt bad that Kyung was stuck with her for his first girlfriend. Not one to fantasize about dates, ever, often times when the question came up with what they'd do for the evening, it turned into a "Whatever you want to do is fine with me" conversation.
He deserved someone who'd let him surprise her, or at least drop hints for him to pick up on, so he could "surprise" her with his wonderful thoughtfulness. Not that she didn't think Kyung was thoughtful, he was wonderful. But she could definitely be doing better in the girlfriend department. As long as she was here, might as try her best, right?
Currently the two where over looking the fair at the top of the wheel, deciding on what game or food stall to check out first, following the couple who'd gotten into the cart in front of them, Amber'd laced her fingers with his, but she hadn't tried to rest her head on his shoulder. There was just something awkward about their torso height's compared to one another that would have made that difficult and uncomfortable.
Instead they'd found their own position, she leaned against him lightly, leg propped up on her chair, slinked down in her seat, almost lounging against the guy. Looking up at Kyung, instead of out at the fair, like she was supposed to be doing. It wasn't often she had a chance to really look at him, because he was usually looking at her, reading her mind or something. Then they'd catch each others glances and spend the rest of their time awkwardly taking turns looking at the other, to make sure they other wasn't looking.
She couldn't say if the way they acted around each other was odd or not, but she couldn't imagine it any other way.
"What did you do earlier?" she asked, as Kyung had already had a full day with his friends before they'd met back at the apartments. Lately she'd watched him grow a little in confidence. Just in small ways. Instigating kisses with no hesitation had been the first tip off. She liked that he seemed happy.
