Dark Munday Questions (AKA Allen Made a Huge Mistake Reblogging This)
Disclaimer 1: These answers come more so from my fanfic writings than my RP ones.
Disclaimer 2: As I am currently writing a Tokyo Ghoul fanfic most of my answer may contain Tokyo Ghoul spoilers.
What is your favorite thing about writing dark plots?
In general I just enjoy exploring some of the darker aspects of either a character or their world as a whole. For the Tokyo Ghoul fanfic I’m doing I plan on touching a bit more on what it means to actually have cannibals living in a city-area, play up some of the paranoia that goes with having predators that could be living next door. Nothing too horror-heavy since I’m an action guy, but… y’know, play with the idea a bit.
Are there any horror or angst tropes you really can’t stand?
Horror and angst isn’t my area of expertise, but yanderes have slowly inched their way up the list of “Tropes Allen X Can’t Stand”. I talked a bit about this here, but I’ll expand a little. For me, a good yandere is one that the reader is actively afraid of. Someone that is clearly a disturbed individual who’s attraction toward the male lead is obviously unheathy and obsessive. Yuno Gasai, for all the memes that surround her, is a good example of this. Their love is a meant to play into the horror elements, but they rarely are, at least in terms of RPing. To be fair, RPing a good Yandere is next to impossible because of how Tumblr RPing works, but… I digress.
Do you get inspiration from dark or dramatic sources in media, like books and movies?
I’d say so, yeah. Not so much in terms of dark or dramatic writing, but in terms of deconstruction. I find it amazing what happens when you put some of these ideas in a real world setting and see what the consequences would be. Again, with Tokyo Ghoul I am fascinated by the idea of superhuman cannibals living in a city area and what that means for the normal humans living there.
