The mysterious raven-haired man who would occupy the back table at the bakery for the greater part of the afternoon as he poured over a laptop screen far too bright for someone with such deep eyebags.
His orders were always the same. Two sweets you would recommend paired with a steaming cup of coffee.
It had been months since he first walked through the bakery's door, but never once had you bothered to hold an actual conversation with him.
There was just something about his calm yet curious aura that had you dwelling close enough to offer a polite smile or two but never daring to do anything more.
Unlike others, he didn't seem to mind your hesitance to initiate conversation. If anything, he appreciated it.
You could see it in the hesitant way his lips would curve to create a small smile of approval every time he liked one of the new sweets presented to him.
In the way he would leave abnormally large tips on the days where the dessert was good enough for him to order a box full of them to take away instead of complimenting your creations just like so many others would.
At first, you couldn't help but find his mannerisms peculiar, but over time you had come to appreciate the quaint silence that accompanied his visits.
You thought the dramatic name was very unbecoming of a man so silent and mysterious as the one before you, but never once chose to question it as you accepted the credit card he offered you on a rainy day far too busy for anyone else to be present in your bakery.
This information was yet another thing you simply chose to add to your mental filing cabinet created solely for the mystery man before you.
It was accompanied by your knowledge that he was a college student from the dorms on the other side of the street, something you had to wait a month before figuring out once he pulled out a diary marked with the college's emblem.
He also seemed to have an affinity for all things monochrome and plain, so much so he would often crinkle his nose when presented with the rainbow-coloured delicacies you would design during pride events.
Yet Ryuzaki wasn't one to voice his concerns.
In fact, the only time you had ever heard him speak aside from his original order was the day you had forgotten to add two extra sugars to his coffee.
Perhaps that was why you were shocked to your core the second a soft yet affirmative voice drifted through your quaint little bakery.
If he wasn't the only other person in the store you wouldn't have thought twice before turning away and walking back to the counter to explore the source of the question.
But the lack of customers for the day had you quickly turning to the side to face a pair of abnormally wide eyes already staring at you.
It took you a moment to truly process his question, and another to quickly set down the coffee cup in your hands lest you risk dropping it in surprise.
you allowed your gaze to flicker across his form and briefly dwell on the murder mystery novel clutched between his dainty finger before continuing.
"-they can be very fascinating."
Ryuzaki took a moment to analyze you, leaving no room for subtlety as his wide gaze lazily observed your form.
It was only when his silence started to get a little too awkward for your liking that the brunette spoke up again, this time with his voice holding a lilt of emotion you couldn't quite place.
"There's this new mystery movie at the theatres I was thinking of watching. Would you like to join me?"
It was your turn to take a moment of silence as you genuinely mulled over his proposal.
Sure, you had met Ryuzaki on a regular basis for the past two months, but he was as good as a stranger to you. Yet somehow, he made you feel a sense of comfort you often lacked when interacting with other males.
The bakery had been awfully slow as well, which meant you could get away with an early night.
That left only one question; what exactly were his intentions?
"Are you asking me out on a date?"
Normally people would shy away from such a direct confrontation, but not Ryuzaki. If anything, he seemed to appreciate your candour.
"Depends, are you saying yes?"
His coy response was all it took to quell your previous qualms, causing a small smile to tug on your lips as you began to walk away from his table.
You turned back at the sudden exclamation, uttering a response before you could think twice.
"Your pastries are as sweet as you."
This time you couldn't help the giggle that slipped past your lips at his corny compliment, however, you were quick to retract your steps at the sound of the front door being pushed open.
You turned away from him then, but there was no mistaking the silly smile painted across your lips for the next hour you spent behind the counter.
