La Meije - La Bérarde
Coucou les copains ! (coming soon)
Le dernier weekend de La Berarde Juin 2024
Driven over to La Berarde with the Terminator (Andreas). We walked up to look at the south face of the Meije but due to risk of rockfall on the face and a dodgy looking descent we chose to climb a route on the west face called “nous partirons dans l’ivresse”
It was about 12 pitches. Max 6a. We thought it would be only part bolted but was actually fully bolted! I led the first crux pitch in the cold and had to keep my socks on as it was in the shade and felt quite brutal. I pulled on the quick draw over the over hang unfortunately! The rest of the pitches were really nice. A couple of tricky moves further up but nothing too hard. Nice climbing on gneiss rock. Even had a small crack to play on.
Trio Of Students Miraculously Survive Avalanche In French Alps
Always good to have a whole lot of luck on your side!
Isere, France – On Tuesday, December 20, 2016, three inexperienced and under equipped 20-year-old engineering students set off on foot from La Bérarde in Saint-Christophe-en-Oisans toward the Pilatte Refuge (2577m) where they planned to spend the night. At around 8pm, when they were approximately 50 meters from the shelter they were caught in an avalanche that was 300 meters wide and 70cm thick.
