This is probably the most interesting tech related article I've read for at least a year:
Jones and Pham said that while Facebook and Google spin out solid engineers, at Science they more often see savvier, pop-culture-immersed founders coming out of places like Fox Interactive and Demand Media.
"LA is and always has been a city that creates mass-market products. We’re closer to culture than Silicon Valley"
Everything else has been a complete snoozefest!
Everything else is a variation of Facebook acquiring X company, or Google acquiring Y company.
Everything else is a variation of company A pumping out an ill thought out product, that's a ripoff of company B.
Boring.
It's for this reason that I can see some merit to LA's new appeal - they have an undercurrent of creativity pumping through their blood, that is lacking in San Francisco (or at least dormant).
Kids and Cowboys know of the goldrush now and they're attracted to San Francisco to get rich - of course it's going to be lacking in creativity! Places always do when the focus overwhelmingly becomes about money (why do you think NY is so dry?). That's how cycles go.
LA seem like they're doing it for fun, and as a flow on effect, are taking the riches away from the north.
