If you're up for giving more writing advice, I was wondering if you had tips for writing descriptions/imagery, or does that come too naturally for you

Lucky for me and you, someone’s already asked me about this. I will add that at one point I was going too far with descriptions and imagery, in ways that just kind of bogged down the writing; but going too far also taught me how to pull back and be restrained in the use of imagery. You have to learn how to use descriptions/imagery effectively - not just to give people your specific vision of the setting or character, but an understanding of those things too.

Like, here’s a stupidly obvious example, but in the earlier chapters of DLB I was repeatedly using ice/ocean/cold imagery and descriptions for Noatak to reinforce that he’s an icy, cold person without flatly stating it. Show-not-tell isn’t just about creating visually vivid scenes, but informing characterization as well.

Yes! It’s supposed to play on “mother of dragons”. I believe I changed it to this one after the book 2 finale, when we found out that Korra basically started a new avatar cycle.

Funny enough, another one of my old urls, korraleesi, is also a Game of Thrones/ASOIAF reference. :)

But I liked the expansion that turned it into a story! I tried to write a drabble once but it was nothing in comparison to what I wanted. Also I think it’s amazing that you’ve written so many prompts ^^

ahh, i think it might have been a little jumpy? idk... when writing it the tone just seemed to shift a lot quickly, so idk how it felt when reading "first time / unknowing, etc." ( i never do - which is probably why i always look down on my work >.>) it's something i need to work on, i think, but that will come when i get into a comfortable place with my writing again. i went through a phase of "EVERYTHING SUCKS I CAN'T DO ANYTHING" to a phase of near complete "zen" where everything just *clicked* and went together easily in a matter of hours / days and this has happened before and i'm still trying to figure out what happens to me mentally to cause that shift so i can not have such a sudden change in how i feel about my work. hopefully, that'll be soon... i need to journal what happened this whole week with that process so i can look back at it later when the first phase happens again >.>

(to your last line): haha, i'm surprised i can keep up with it honestly, week after week (esp with all those "mental shifts" happening lately >.>) but after so long of just "doing it" this whole thing has just become habit / a job, ya know? :P besides, even if i'm not taking prompts from other people a lot, doing the ones for peaf is really fun because it helps me take an idea / concept for a few weeks time and go "how can i make this work with the characters / show" and it's helped me write things i never would have thought of on my own without that little "shove" to get me going. ^^ the only problem with it being the time constraints to "think of + write the thing" can be very stressful at times to find a way to get something done it time.

Thank you!! ^^ I enjoy that as well. I remember way back when peaf first started, we were in our fourth week with the prompt "traveler's burden" and i was going to do a similar thing with mako following snippets of korra's travels through the newspapers and radios (i even remember i was going to write the line "he hears rumors of a girl roaming through the earth kingdom who moves with the wind at her fingertips") unfortunately, i never wrote it (i think i might have it buried somewhere >.>) but I'm glad the idea popped up here (50 prompts later, but...) even if it was a minor part of the fic compared to everything else that happened. :P

I kind of wish I had just stuck with / focused that idea more than other parts but when I expanded on whole thing with the letters and him following her through the news (last night at midnight) I already had the structure / bare bones sketch of the rest of the fic, and knew I wouldn't have time to write anything beyond adding things into what I had.=.= *sigh this has happened to me LOT lately oh well maybe another time*

probably The Ethics of Home Economy because it's the closest reflection of the style i use in my (few) original pieces.  3rd person limited POV, unreliable/biased narrator, present tense, lots of character reflection and jumpy transitions.  gotta love the ambiguous ending (so sorry to all who still think it's unfinished omg)

idk my srs ships are nothing shameful but um i might kind of srs ship Hikaru/Kaoru a little bit and i hate myself for it?

10. Any fandoms you'd hate to admit you were a part of?

i was big into Star Wars fandom when Phantom Menace came out.  wrote lots of terrible Obi-Wan fic.

15. Oh shit you croaked without getting rid of the fandom stuff you saved to your computer. What's your next of kin or friend going to find when they turn on your computer?

also idk they'd find several MB of unfinished, neatly-organized fic from various fandoms (a lot of which i never talk about because i'm not really in those fandoms at all).  it'd probably just confuse my parents, but there's nothing glaringly horrid they'd find.  i don't write a lot of smut.
